Blackburn Rovers are set to appoint former Bolton and Newcastle boss Sam Allardyce as their new manager, according to reports on Wednesday.
Allardyce is said to have been in discussions with the Ewood Park outfit since late on Tuesday night and he is now believed to be ready to succeed Paul Ince.
The 54-year-old has made no secret of his desire to return to management since leaving St James' Park in January.
Allardyce, along with ex-England boss Steve McClaren, was a contender for the Ewood hot-seat in the summer, but Ince - who was sacked on Tuesday - was the preferred candidate.
However, Allardyce now looks set to be named Rovers' new chief and it appears he will be appointed in time for Saturday's home meeting with Stoke.
Graeme Souness, who managed Rovers between 2000 and 2004, was also rumoured to be close to making a return to the one-time Premier League champions but he ruled himself out of the running on Wednesday morning.

Big Sam's the man for Blackburn
Sam Allardyce has been confirmed as the new Blackburn manager on a three-year deal, and will be in the dugout for Saturday's clash with Stoke.
The 54-year-old, who takes over with immediate effect, will be presented at a press conference at Ewood Park at 4pm on Thursday.
Blackburn moved quickly after sacking Paul Ince on Tuesday and have swooped for the former Bolton and Newcastle boss.
The club said in a statement: "Blackburn Rovers are delighted to announce the appointment of Sam Allardyce as manager with immediate effect. Sam has signed a three-year contract."
Rovers were keen to make an appointment as soon as possible - especially as Allardyce had also been linked with the vacant position at Sunderland.
Blackburn chairman John Williams had said it would be a huge advantage for the new manager to be in position before the Premier League visit of Tony Pulis' Potters.
Williams said: "You can't underestimate how much of a boost a physical presence could have on Saturday for what is an absolutely mammoth game.
"Everyone needs to know how big this game is as this is a time the club really has to come together."
Allardyce's eight successful years as Bolton boss persuaded the Rovers board that he is the man to rescue Blackburn from the threat of relegation.
Blackburn are currently second from bottom of the Premier League with 13 points from 17 games.

I think he is the possible manager to drag Blackburn out of Relegation as he is very experience in the league.

Jackson, are you sure of what you're saying? Because I'm not sure what you're trying to say. Sam might be good enough to pull Blackburn out of the relegation zone but they'll get relegated? You're confused and confusing everyone else.

Big Sam is good at club with limited resources, however given blackburn current state he will have to be a good motivator to push the players further.
but i think he shld be able to help blackburn avoid relegation.

Blackburn are hardly one of the three worst teams in the league. Stoke and W.B.A will go down, the other spot is very much open for like 4 or 5 teams.
They have still got some decent players. Santa Cruz,Pedersen (he really needs to find back his form)

nah I am not confusing anyone Sam is the possible manager available to drag them out of relegation but I still think they will relegate as they have too many problems in all department except forwards.
As you already interpreted it correctly Big Sam "Might Be" not highly possible or likely to drag them out of relegation zone.

Yes Stoke is not so good in terms of skills by their organisation and physical strength and the Roy Delap Long throw make up for their lack of skills.
Anyway Blackburn Vs Stoke This weekend can see how BB perform
