Hi guys,

I am with Singnet and I know that the outgoing server should be mail.singnet.com.sg, and the "my server requires authentication" should be unchecked.

i have a technical question which i hope some IT person can answer.

if singnet's outgoing email server does not require authentication, does it not mean that anyone can be using singnet's outgoing email server?

say for example, if i have another email address abc@mycompany.com, the pop setting is probably pop.mycompany.com, then the outgoing can be mail.singnet.com.sg also right?

this also means that spam mail can go through singnet's email server too right, i can pretend to be using the user name xxx@xxx.com and send out through singnet's mail server right?

You'll not be able send thru singnet smtp server if you're not on singnet connection.

you want to flood the mail gateway?

anyway i think singnet checks source ip address range before accepting the mail relay. the reply mail domain doesnt matter.

With regards to the above, does it mean that if i configure my singnet email on outlook on my notebook, then i bring the notebook overseas to use, i will not be able to send out the email, since i am on a different ISP?

i don't think this is the case right....

I think there will be the time to use my server requires authentication when u go overseas. Did that once 2 year ago.

for mails going thru mail.singnet.com.sg it doesn't require any authentication.

Singnet their side will noe which IP range is under theirs... if its not under them, u will get a NDR or require an authentication.

if not on their network, they will require authentication and the from address must be from their domain
