Anyone had this problem? When I boot up my PC with this adaptor attached via USB, the PC just keeps rebooting when in Windows and rebooting even when starting up in BIOS. Originally I thought its was insufficient PSU so I went and bought a new 500W PSU. The same problem persisted. Checked mobo, SDRAM, etc, all no problem.

Then I noticed that I could boot up and run normally in SAFE mode but not SAFE mode with NETWORKING. So I removed my WUSB54G adaptor and everything works. When I plugged it back in the PC just rebooted. No warning, it just craps out to the BIOS bootup screen. It didn't even hang in Windows, it did not even show a blue screen.

Any ideas?

Checked on linksys forum and found that the problem is peculiar to PCs using Linksys WUSB54G adaptor, on Singnet broadband and with WinXP updated to SP3. Apparently WinXP SP3 has some conflicts with this setup. The recommended solution is to uninstall SP3.

I don't want to do that as SP3 plugs in some security gaps. Also this does not explain the rebooting even in BIOS screen. Anyone has a similar problem and managed to resolve this?

I have encountered exactly the same problem. It appeared that my adaptor is faulty.

Hi Guys, are you're getting the BSOD with error specifically indicating rt2500USB.sys?

If yes, it's a problem related to the Linksys WUSB54G driver software. Pls go to the below link and download the Driver package,

http://www-sg.linksys.com/servlet/Satellite?c=L_CASupport_C2&childpagename=SG%2FLayout&cid=1166859843775&pagename=Linksys%2FCommon%2FVisitorWrapper&lid=4377540888B18&displaypage=download#versiondetail

You'll need to un-install the previous software/driver version. Reboot your system and install the new software/driver and re-setup your wireless link.

I'd this problem (though it goes on and off since last week) for both my WUSB54G adaptor. So google a bit and found that other's were having this same problem sometime back and a software/driver update actually solved the problem.

It's rather strange that all of us using the WUSB54G are getting the problem about the same time...:s11:

Yah, will try to update driver tonight. I have two PCs and both uses the WUSB54G. I tried my other adaptor on the PC and same problem, it crash and reboots so its not a faulty adaptor.

I understand this is peculiar to WinXP SP3 only so updating the latest driver could make a difference.

Installed the latest driver and it made the problem worse. I contacted Linksys and the agent told me that this is a known problem with SP3 and to update the USB CONTROLLER driver. Apparently SP3 is causing an IRQ conflict with the adaptor and some other device and causing the system to reboot.

Problem is one of my PC is 5 years old and gigabyte no longer update the drivers after 2004.

Anyone has any conflict using another brand? I am thinking of changing brand and ditching Linksys for good.

Sorry to hear that it's not working. Updating the motherboard driver is useless, it's an issue with the Linksys USB wireless adaptor and it's software.

If can rma better do it fast.

In my case, both my WUSB54G version 4 works fine after updating the linksys software.

Too late. Called Linksys and was told both my WUSB54G is outside warranty. Linksys agent insist that SP3 is unstable and causing IRQ conflict. He suggested I rollback to SP2 until either Linksys issued a new driver or Microsoft fix the SP3 issue. Apparently to close the security hole in WinXP, Microsoft had changed the way software access the internet and control devices. This screwed up many people's internet connection which either starting to shut down their PC or just shut down the internet device.

I updated the linksys driver and it did not solve my problem.

I wonder if other wireless adaptor brands he same problem and if I can fix this by buying a non-Linksys adaptor. Because of this Linksys just lost a client.

Don't plug the wireless adapter to the PC.
Uninstall the old driver and remove all existing linksys dll and reboot.
Then install back the new driver the latest from the linksys web site then plug in the adapter.
