Greetings. Just some general enquiries. I believe all wireless 'N' routers nowdays offer backward compability with 'B/G' standards? If so, say a user has a 'G' usb adapter and uses it to connect to the 'N' router, will the speed default back to 54mbps? Likewise, an 'N' adapter connecting to a 'G' access point, any chances of a boost in signal or speed? Lastly, for a 5 room flat, is wireless G sufficient? Or do you recommend 'N' instead?

Sorry to hijack thread. Say I have a N router running in mixed mode. Will the speed of N clients be affected by the use of G clients at the same time?

Yes it will. The faster N clients will be force to run at G clients speed to remain compatible.

ok great. I have confirmed my doubts. By the way, seeing the market, 802.11n products are still expensive (only the Netgear N router is less than $100) but once prices drop, people will make the move over to 'N'.

Incorrect, in mixed mode, N clients will run at 130Mbps, the narrow channel speed, G clients will stay at 54Mbps. The assertion here is that N clients can potentially go up to 260Mbps if N only mode is selected using wide channel.

What if I run it in Mixed mode without any G clients? Will the N clients still be running at 130mbps?

In a b/g/n mode, you can get either of the 130/270(300) mbps rate depending on the band selection you opted for.
