Hi people,

Currently I've got a very old USR 56kpbs message modem which currently serve me for more than 6 yrs. Now, it is time to retire this modem and recently it seems like unable to work well. I can't find any 56K message modem currently in the market. I need to have the function that it can receive fax automatically and view as a softcopy.

Any 56K message modem that can recomends??
Much appreciated!!
Thanxs!!

Not really liangtam, USR 56K external modem doesn't require to power up the PC receive fax, it's something PCI/USB analog modem cannot achieve. Some of my friends are still using this modem for receiving fax without wasting paper and ink to print those spam.

The user can select which fax to print or delete via an installed software in the host PC which is really good and easy to manage unlike those 4 in one type of printers with fax function.

Seems that USR 56kpbs message modem cannot receive faxes when used in Digital Voice (Mio Plan) line.

Can anyone confirm this?

i thought still need to put pc to at least on standby, wake up on ring? is that what you meant by 'doesnt require to power up' the pc to receive fax?

that is the good thing about USR modem. you don't need a pc. not even standby. just leave it connected to a phone line.

No need at all, the user can shutdown/power off the host PC (RS232 COM port connection) and leave the external modem power on, it will continue to receive faxes and store them in the built-in memory, when the user return to work the next day, all he/she need is to boot up the host PC and launch the net2phone software to check all the faxes, the beauty of this modem is no more wasting of paper and ink with spam.

Thats the good thing abt message modem. You dont even need to put on standby mode, wake up on ring, etc.. Your incoming faxes will be stored inside the modem itself, till when you startup ur PC and start to download ur fax from ur message modem..

Yup, Commach was right.. I'm using this message modem to do my send/receive fax 24hrs and reading the fax via my PC without wasting paper.

So anyone knows where can I find another USR 56K Message Modem or any Message Modem out there that does the same functions??
anyone can advise??

It definitely works with MIO Voice. My mom faxes to the Philippines very often instead of snail mailing letters.

I also use my home fax for documents once in a while. Dell used to fax me their weekly promos until I unsubscribed to it. :o

I am more concerned about receiving incoming faxes using USR Message Modem on Mio Voice. Have not tried faxing out with it.

My friend also has the same problem. His USR Message Modem also cannot receive faxes on Mio Voice. When he brought his Message Modem to try out on his office analogue line, it worked perfectly.

How old is your Message Modem? I bought my current one brand new less than 2 years ago. Maybe the newer model's firmware has problem working with Mio Voice.

I've already sent it to the Philippines to my relatives, but it's a few years old. I was using it for a short while when the singtel tech installed my MIO Voice service, but I've since gone to an AIO for faxing - which also works well with MIO Voice.

/Dan
PS: I think I got it in 2001-2002, IIRC. I've just sent it to the Phils in early Nov when my mom went over to visit her relatives.

Your Message Modem could be considered as the older model with lesser buit-in storage, and older firmware.

My friend also tested an AIO for incoming fax, with Mio Voice. No problem.

So the problem could be with the newer batch of USR Message Modems, when used with Mio Voice. Perhaps some tweaking of the S-settings can solve the problem, but I don't bother.

Now I use the Mio Voice for free divert to mobile phone, and don't bother with the occasional incoming faxes, which are all junk faxes and adverts. After their unsuccessful tries at faxing to me, they also give up.

Not from USR, i got it from the Hayes 56K external serial (RS232) modem, it works with USR external fax modem too.

My mom's Filipino. I have relatives there. A lot of my old IT stuff go there, since it's still fairly "modern" where they are. :s34:

Where can I find this software on the Net? Would like to check it out.
I am surprised that it can work with a stand-alone Message Modem.
