Not sure about Windows' internet sharing, but I've successfully shared my BBoM via Wifi on my Mac... Was at my uncle's funeral wake and a couple of us needed to get on the internet to search for epitaph texts.
In any case, the DIR-451 is expensive. Go with the DIR-655 and flash that to firmware 1.21 - it's a much cheaper and better alternative.

1.21 is problematic and has serious bugs.
DIR-451 can do both PCMCIA & USB. DIR-453 has inbuilt modem i think

i dunno anything about the dns323
but anyway, this sort of 3g sharing is more for an offsite office sharing that does light job instead of what others use it for currently.

Can be done. Use router which can support 3.5G modem, dun buy those with built-in modem router next time if the telco upgrade their infrastructure, and you will be stuck with the old speed.
I use the 3.5G router in our office for failover, so far very reliable.

just enable ICS in windows and create secure wifi peer network on the source terminal.
