my 2004 linksys router just died on me.. BEFW11S4 version 2.

i just wanna check with the experts here if my router is spoilt.

first of all, im using wired connection from my desktop to router. after my internet connection died.. i went to unplug my ethernet wire from the router and directly connected to my starhub modem(motorola sb5101). all is well and working. no problems with my isp.

then i tried to connect back to my router. reset my router to factory default and everything. doesnt work.

so i went to check the status tab.
apparent under "WAN:"
my ip address, default gateway, dns is 0.0.0.0
i spammed the DHCP renew and release buttons. but didnt work at all.

so i did a search on google and tried to find solutions. they say i could try to mac clone address. i sort of like try the different MAC address in my setup page that i see but it cannot renew the DHCP ip still. my firmware for router dates back to 2004.. but thats the latest linksys has on the website.

thanks a million for helping me identify the problem

Whenever problem occurs, you should power off the modem and router first, then on them to see if problem persists, instead disconnecting and test on another device. Only when it doesn't help, then test further to isolate the problem.

Dump the old one and get the new one. But before that, have you tried to power cycle the modem first? Last time i also have this problem with my WRT54G V4, i off the modem and router, after that i on the modem power first, after 3 mins then i on my router power and it works. Now using WRT54GC.
