i have been on MOL xpress for the past 4 years n wish to recontract to MOL premium. After activation what are the ways to check n make sure that indeed there is an increase in speed? and is it possible to use back the old motorola modem issued during MOL xpress for the MOL premium?

Depends on wat model your modem is, depends on wat DOCSIS standard, it can achieve certain max speed. U can always check with starhub if your model can achieve the speed.

in all honesty every single ISP out there sees their fair share of complains and problems....like that u tell me which isp sld i recontract to? also my only problem with SH is a noticable slow down in speed during peak hours.....n since i no longer do any gaming online therefore the slow down in speed is negliable for me.

well if speed do not affect you much haha then any ISP should be ok with you then ....was thinking you are one of the guys who do gaming D/L and do streaming :)

You can check your speed using this website.
utilities.starhub.com
It's a speedtest to Starhubs Datacenter.

but then what is the reason for you to re-contract to higher plan ; there will still be laghub during peak hours...you need that that extra 4Mbps during off peak hours?

nice.....one more question.....i have a megaupload premium acct...on MOL xpress currently my DL speeds averages around 500kb/sec n sometimes able to peak at around 700kb/sec.....any idea how fast wld i be able to get if i switch to MOL premium.
currently MOL premium have 30% off which amounts to about the same price i m paying for MOL xpress currently....therefore i m rather interested in recontracting n switch to premium plan.

i do my downloading during off peak........n since currently MOL premium prices are similar to the price i have been paying for xpress....might as well switch over

erm... same.. on premium plan, sometimes 100, sometimes 200, 500, of course i do reach 1000+ but then not very often. Not very consistant.
I'm waiting to swtich to sinktel :o so much cheaper.

I'm not in contract with SH. Want to jump ship to ST but I don't want to sign a 24-month contract. Why must I commit to crappy service if any? Anyone manage to signup with SingTel without contract?

actually for MOL express , the theoretical speed for 8 Megabits per secs is 1MegaByte/sec. For 12 Mbps , it is 1.5MB/sec.
You refer to here
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_device_bandwidths#Modems.2FBroadband_connections
SO based on what you have said, basically Starhub has ripped you off. You are getting average of 500 kilo Byte /sec to a Max of 700kB/sec when you should be getting 1MB/sec.
You are not getting what you have paid for. In addition , during peak hours, the download speed is even worse . CAN BE ZERO
What I can say is that ,probably if u pay premium, you will at best get express speeds.
What a joke!
For singnet users, can you comment abt your consistency of download speeds during off and peak periods?

In addition, you have a megaupload acct which should support up to what ISP can give you. So I believe you not hitting the 1MB/s peak on MOL express is due to Starhub's inconsistency in broadband service and not megaupload issue.
Talk to Starhub first about restoring your 1MB/s transfer on your MOL express first and threaten to terminate if they cannot perform, since you are no longer on contract.
My motto, you should get what you have pay for.

I'm on MOL Premium and owns a Megaupload Premium account and my speed is 1.5MB/sec. I usually download in the morning.
The speed will slowly decrease 4pm onwards.
