Hi all,

I am currently on SNBB 10Mbps unlimited plan (comes with free limited Mio TV, 2 movies per mth deal), and using the 2Wire 2701HGV gateway. (Since late Dec 08)

The 2wire gateway was on 24/7 and my Internet connection was fine (totally no d/c issues at all) until Singtel came to install the Mio TV in early Jan.

Ever since then, I was having lots of intermittent d/c issues throughout the entire day, (about 4-5 d/c per hr) especially

-At night, (8pm to 2am)when surfing the net

-Or when I am playing online games - usually log-in 5 –10mins d/c (anytime through out the day). After terminating the game application, the internet connection will be back again. * i close all torrent applications when playing games

-Torrenting during the early hours in the morning (2am – 7am)

I have only 1 desktop (wired) and 1 laptop (wireless) at home connected to the 2wire gateway.

These are the online activities / programs that I usually run on the desktop

-Firefox 3.0
-I.E. 6.0
-MSN
-Online video streaming, (mainly youtube and crunchy roll)
-Bitcomet 0.60 (with port forwarding done)
-Dota
-Granado Espada
- Many other random games

-AVG anti virus

*btw, I have no problems with my BT speed ( avg 150-200 kb/s), just that it frequently d/c (spd drops to 0kb/s, than gotta climb all the way up again)

Below are a few screen shots of my line stats:

http://i41.tinypic.com/1jp189.jpg
http://i42.tinypic.com/30cnnkx.gif
http://i40.tinypic.com/2iag9c2.gif
* I have plugged micro-filters into every single phone socket in my house.

Questions:
1) Is there any configuration that I can tweak inside the 2wire gateway to improve on the intermittent d/c issues?

2)If I have decided to do away with the Mio TV, and currently I do not have Mio Voice. Does that mean that I can replace the 2Wire gateway with any other modems? E.g. d-link, linksys etc

3)If I replace the 2wire gateway with some other modems, will it help with the intermittent d/c issues? or will it improve my BT speeds by allowing more connections? (heard that 2wire have a relatively small NAT table, not too sure about this )

4)Is a 2 in 1 gateway, or the traditional modem – router setup better? (in terms of functionality, latency issues etc, putting ease of configuration and cost aside). Not too sure about all this stuffs, since I have been using the Motorola SGB1000 for the past 4 years, and it was really easy to use.

Any suggestions / replies on how to improve on the current situation are greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

1. D/C = whenever you got intermittently discconected - which LEDs led remains on?

2. yes, you will be able to replace with any ROUTER cum ADSL Modem modem/router.

3. For that it depends if its a line issue no matter which modem you switched to it will result to the same conclusion - BT speeds depending on which router you going for.. and why do i say this " it depends on how many peers your router could sustain before giving up on you". And yes, 2WIRE NAT table is kinda small to sustain massive amount of connecting peers.

4. If you ask me i prefer to have 2 separate devices to do the job. 1 router, 1 modem. But 2 in 1 here is fine.

I'm currently facing the same problem, but im using DIR-655 (firmware 1.21) + 2WIRE on SNBB 10MBPS. When my downloads are on, it will suddenly drop to 0kb, then the internet seems to be cut off, even games will dc. Then after a few secs, the speed climbs up again, and then it repeats. I actually can curb the problem by limiting to 1 download and capping the d/l speed at 150/200 kbps (able to reach 700+ w/o capping). I still cannot figure out the problem.

PS: sorry for hijacking thread, because i have a similar problem as TS.

Hi all,

thks for the replies.

MarineX: Whenever my desktop gets D/C from the internet, the Ethernet and Broadband LED lights on the modem flashes/blinks very slowly, while the internet LED goes off completely.

Liangtam: Sorry but I don't really understand what you mean. Can you pls kindly explain more about where in the last screenshot do I look at to find out the D/C reasons? Thank you.

if that's the case i believe e problem either lies with the line or the device - that explains your intermittent issue.

If i were you, go get Singnet to do a line check at the end first.

Why is your Uncancel echo positive might wanna change microfilter and see how....... also notice a little bit of crc error which will interrupt the MIO TV viewing, 2 things come into my mind....... socket or microfilter problems........
