are you trying to download pirated or illegal content using p2p from public torrents? if so, slowness is due to kiam siap seeders, nothing to do with routers.

from my experience, the router play a part. When I have multiple BT opened at the same time, even though it is less than 25% of the max download rate, but the router can be bottle-neck already due to the number of open connection. And the browser will stop functioning. I am using Netgear WGR614 v5, I have to set a limit to the number of active BT in order to work properly.

WRT54G with DD WRT is okay for P2P.
You just need to flash the DD WRT but that depends on the version of your WRT54G.

For G routers, these are pretty good at BT:

WRT54GL(flashed with 3rd party fw)
WHR-HP-G54(flashed with 3rd party fw)
WHR-G125((flashed with 3rd party fw)
