I'm having this problem with a laptop (Vista) in my home. It is able to connect to the router but does not have access to the internet.

Through the connection, I am able to access the router settings(through browser) and see other computers on the network. Just no access to the internet.

IP address, DNS and gateway are all correct and the same as the other computers that are connected to the router. Settings are also exactly the same the other Vista machine that is connected.

The strange thing is that when it connects to the router, it adds a "2" at the end of the network ID. None of the other computers do this.

Have any of you encountered this? Any and all help would be greatly appreciated!

Either you delete the network (1) or merge both network.
If i'm not wrong, this laptop was previously connected to another network with private network setting.

@liangtam
Which screenshot do you require?

I'm not sure if it has connected to a different network previously as it has only been used in the home. Connected to the home network and internet just fine until recently. Have tried merging the networks and still can't access the net.

note that ip address must not be the same for different computers.

try pinging to www.yahoo.com, see got reply or not. subsequently try pinging 209.131.36.158 which is yahoo.com 's ip address

Sorry, my mistake. The IP address for the problem computer is not the same as the rest, its unique.

Pinged Yahoo.com and I got a reply! But why can I ping that but have no access otherwise?

Edit: Ok, each time I ping an address (yahoo.com or google.com, .sg won't work), Vista would show that I'm connected to the internet but it lasts only a short while before showing no access again and I can't actually browse any web page.

Does the the system indicating that ipV4 is local while ipv6 is limited mean anything?
