Need help with definition of 'local community'

Hi guys,
I am not sure if I am posting in the correct forum but I really need some clarification and definition of 'local community' in this statement,
"The coverage of wireless LAN (802.11 standard) would include all campus grounds and extend into the local community area."
This is actually my assignment on how I can implement a WLAN network design on a campus with a wired infrastructure.
I am quite confused on how WLAN can be extended eg. to homes since ultimately, the user from home still has to connect the wired backbone of the school intranet. How does it relate to the wireless aspect of the network then?

Assuming u are designing a campus network, extending means granting users wireless access for them as if they are connected thru wire. Layer 1/2.

Think it juz means using extenders to increase the range beyond the area of the school.
