Got a linksys wrt54gl router and a modem Thomson Speeddail st546v6 connected to singnet broadband for a PC and a Laptop.

The laptop is using wireless connection while the PC is using wired connection.

The router works without any problem. But one day the internet access could not work.

I try reset the configs of the router and after that I try the followings:

- Test the wired connection of PC to router to modem & laptop to router to modem but internet access couldn't work.

-Test the wireless connection of the laptop to router to modem but internet access couldn't work.

- Test the wired connection of PC to modem & laptop to modem. Both connection worked without any problem.

- Test connect both PC and laptop to the router using wire to create LAN. But PC and laptop can ping each other.

- Test the router to modem of a MOL, internet access no problem.

I can confirm that the lan cables are okay, and the connection of cables are correct.

So I suspect is the router problem. Anyone can analysis wad happen?

Thanks.

Yes I know how to setup and the password to the config. I trying the wired conection first. At default settings, the router is able to connect to my home modem and Internet without any problems.
But the router is unable to connect to Singnet.
So I need to know why.

any static ip using starhub dns set for pc & laptop?

router status says connected or disconnected to singnet?

For starhub one, since the router was reset, it was using DHCP to assign IP address to LAN. It has no problems connect to Internet.

For singnet, also the same, using default configs and DHCP. But strangely it cant connect to the Internet. Remember I first time buy also set up the same thing and can connect. Now cant :(

jus to clarify, pc & lappy not using static ip (and starhub dns) e.g. for torrenting...?

router status page says connected to singnet with correct singnet ip & dns obtained?

if yes, then i dunno liao (sry!)...

p.s. last time u mention using Privoxy, still using tat & u've checked it not causing the problem?

The router status page didn't show singnet with correct singnet ip & dns obtained.

U mean the proxy settings on the web browser?

oh i see, then ignore wat i said abt Privoxy.

so modem is in bridge mode when connected to router? and for below test, u "unbridged" the modem?
Test the wired connection of PC to modem & laptop to modem. Both connection worked without any problem.

With linksys router connected to the st546v6, access the linksys from your PC and see what's the wan IP. Suspect WAN and LAN in same subnet.

not too sure if the modem is in bridge mode anot.
Cuz last time the modem I just connect with the router and can work.
I just set the Internet Connection Type as Auto Configuration: DHCP.

Anyway I forget to take screenshot of that page. And it was at my friend house. Shall go to my friend house soon to take the screenshot of the status page.

So is the st546v6 connected to the linksys wan or lan? If connected to wan, it shouldn't be blank.

PC & Laptop -- Router -- Modem -- Internet
Thats the above setup. I just addon a router behind the modem so that my friend has lan and wireless.
But strangely cant connect Internet. But once remove the router, everything can work as normal.
I even double confirm the setup & cabling is coreect anot. Also I also switch the lan cables to see if lan cables are the suspect anot.
Think I going back to my friend house to re-setup the connection again.

Modem needs to be in bridge mode for the connection to your router. If not the primary network device will be your modem thus the router will be blocking the connection. Once modem set to bridge mode, your router should be the device to establish the connection witht your singnet acc and password.

Do take note that when in bridge mode, you might not be able to connect directly to internetwith just PC + modem alone. Have to set up the modem + router configuration.
