I recently upgraded to MaxOnline Ultimate and I am very disappointed with FTP downloading speed.
From my FTP sites, with previous MaxOnline Premuim, I was able to get 100-200KB/s download speed, now with Ultimate plan, I can only have 20KB/s!
Here is a sample, you can download same data file from either FTP or HTTP, they are pointing to same target file, please see the huge difference:
ftp://ftp.nai.com/pub/antivirus/datfiles/4.x/dat-5560.zip
Download speed: 30-60KB/s
http://download.nai.com/products/datfiles/4.x/nai/dat-5560.zip
Download speed: 800KB - 1.2MB/s
I have been using Ultimate for more than one week, the download speed is never improved during the whole week, I was testing above sample every day in the past week, I got the same result every time.
Why is that so? The purpose of upgrading to Ultimate plan is to have more faster speed, now it goes to opposite way.
If Starhub can't do anything on this, I will change the plan back to Premium although I signed 2 year Ultimate plan...

They are the same file. But that does NOT mean it is the same server, same geographical area hosted and not to mention, even the protocol is different.
PS: If you have not even figure out. The file access from the first link is hosted in US. The second link is mirrored to a local server, meaning hosted in SG. Does that answer your question why one is faster?

i try to use mcafee to show the difference between ftp and http but i agree this is not a good sample. my interest is to know why huge difference between ultilmate and premium on ftp donwloading. it is about 20kb/s vs 100-200kb/s.

very bad comparison man, ftp.nai.com and download.nai.com is totally different server and totally different geographical location. it is "international" link limiting your ftp, lol

not all ftp servers allow multiple logins from same account + ip.
my point is, if premium plan can archive 200KB/s single login, why Ultimate plan only give me 20KB/s on the same FTP site.

hmm... have you tried at other sites and see if the problem lies with your connection itself or ISP?
Perhaps it just happened that the FTP server is currently unable to achieve the rate now - not necessary for the problem to be with the PLAN taken.

in the past 3 weeks, i have been testing with starhub engineers, they can switch my connection on the fly...i provided test ftp account for testing under ultimate plan and premium plan, in weekday, weekend, daytime, nighttime, midnight.
today, they called me that they can re-contract my plan to premium without any compensation, they can reproduce this issue but have no idea why that's so.

here are 2 screenshots of our test results. u can see the difference
on same ftp address, almost same period
Ultimate plan, average download speed 50KB/s, very unstable.

Premium plan, average download speed 230KB/s and very stable, see attached screenshot, there are 7 blocks (7x15MB files) in the chart, besides starting point, the download speed is very stable.

Well I download stuff off of my seedbox using ftp on mol ultimate and the highest speed ive hit is around 32mb/s.
Mabye your lines signal is weak and your acheiving higher speeds on the Premium plan because the signal is just too low for your Ultimate, unless your getting the proper speeds your paying for.

I can have 5MB/s from Apple trailer site (HTTP), and 96MB/s from Starhub's speed test site. i dont think signal is weak or somehing but i believe starhub resets the tcp connection somewhere within ultimate chain. i did some package analysis during the tests, i have somethine like:
No. Time Source Destination Protocol Info
69080 0.081459 202.102.95.51 192.168.0.103 TCP abcd > 49374 [RST] Seq=13236 Win=0 Len=0
the tcp package was forced to reset, seemed to be reset by node 202.102.95.51 (somewhere in china) but that was not true, because no such RST cmd when capturing premium chain.
since starhub does not want to tell me the truth, i can only assume that there are nodes in starhub's ultimate chain, emulating source IP, to reset tcp connnection on certain destination (eg, they want to reserve more bandwidth for normal HTTP surffing on these destinations) and protocols (eg, FTP), technially, it is simple.
