Hi all,

Frankly I am feeling very very sick and tired of this. This has been happening so often and for this time, I am unable to load youtube videos since last night. Being on the premium plan, I am also experiencing very mediocre speeds on most websites most of the time. All the speedboost SH gave isn't boosting my confidence in the connection reliability frankly. Any SH users experiencing the same problem?

I was originally on Singnet, but there is a problem with my internal phone line, Singnet cant seem to fix it, so I switched to SH. And yea, I will downgrade after my contract ends, because I sign up for premium due to the freebies they offered last time. Sigh....

starhub's dns will return a couple of IPs for youtube and some of them are sub-optimal. from their dns, the following two IPs are returned round robin 208.117.236.73 208.65.153.253

the former looks pretty decent but the latter has either routing issue with starhub's network advertisement of routers or google's own routers maybe causing packet loss:

maybe you could hard code the former IP address on your computer using the hosts file to maintain your sanity or pursue this with SH network engineer. i don't really care much about youtube, just sharing my observation on possible packet losses on google's network that may contribute to this.

edit: for traceroute noobs, actual performance is the last hop and only the last hop, so don't make nonsense assumptions on other numbers if you're not sure, just in case you wanna bring this up with SH.

Which DNS server is that then?

When making a comparison, you have to query both DNSd for its replies. For example. Coy R and G runs a DNSd in Singapore. However, no matter how much u psycho yourself to think one is better than the other, .......

Both the query reply will give you the same result. Why was that?
Because both DNSd still get its data from the local root-servers.

Hence, if you think switching DNS will work better in loading sites. That quite unlikely, unless the DNS server of the ISP is having problem.

don't mislead people about changing dns server. like i said, it is "round robin". the round robin is configured and returned by google's authority server, nothing doing with sh dns. sh dns server is merely caching and giving you what google's dns told sh.

apparently clearing your cache works.

I often clear my history and things after using each time. Starhub user too, and there's no problem for me watching videos from YouTube. Even on my iPod via wifi.
