Hi i'm new to this,
I think this device has got a high transfer/receive rate,
but does it support with wireless G routers? can someone advice me on this?
Or is it better to get a wireless G adapter instead? My applications would be as for multimedia and online gaming purposes.

bought this at mediapro...

my 2 cents, it's great for portability but don't expect this as a performance adaptor.

can connect to my DIR615 at 150mbps, but speed is way lower due to harddisk speed, able to copy files over to my lenovo Y400 at about 50mbps actual speed.

Hdd has faster throughput rate.
150Mbps(1T1R) is a theorectical rate, much like standard 2T2/3R Wireless-N of 300Mbps.

At the time of that post of mine - Laser was going at $32, another shop was too.

It's still 1t1r, don't get your hopes up too high.

I never see so small wireless adapter. Seems not bad. For laptop, it will be more convenient. 30+ only, why not? other bigger and longer one, much expensive.

wow.. lucky. just tot on buying this.. how sure this no n cert?

Isn't N.

This is a half N which at the moment, has no certification program by the wifi alliance for this type of 1T1R product

The prolink page is hence very deceptive.

All 'Up to 150Mbps' wireless device are half N.
Do read carefully since it can be marketed through customer confusion.

All brand should have 150Mpbs and 300Mpbs wireless N device. 150Mpbs is better than wireless G 54Mpbs, I think.

From the pic of prolink WN2000, it is small. I think it is good for laptop users. it is easy to move around. For gaming users, if you need high speed, recommend 300Mpbs devices. If just common usage, I think 150Mpbs is ok liao.

it is no such saying like "half n"

11n has different configure: 1x1, 1x2, 2x2, 2x3, 3x3, up to 4x4. (but no one do 4x4 now)

1x1 is 150Mbps. (1Tx & 1Rx)

2x2 is 300Mbps. (2Tx & 2Rx)

3x3 is 450Mbps. (3Tx & 3Rx)

Currently, WiFi cannot certify 1x1. But many chipset company like Atheros, Ralink, etc are pushing 1x1 be WiFi certified.

Many people think 1x1 11n (150Mbps) is good enough to use. Of cause we can spend more money for higher speed. (like 2x2, 300Mbps)

But, when WAN speed or LAN speed only @ 100Mbps.. 300Mbps is too much for the money spend.

for 150Mbps is a PHY rate. the actual thru-put is about 70-80Mbps. (near the AP)
if far away from 11n AP, the thru-put will drop. same for all Wireless Lan product

HDD thru-put via USB cable (HDD to PC) is about 90Mbps.

Obviously there is no "half n", for it is NOT real N, that is what the statement is all about.
The demand for 1T1R is a replacement of g in the lower end segment market due to its low cost(but not lower than cut-throat g at the moment)

However it is misleading for some company to slap the wifi alliance logo and put b g n on it when current certification do not intake such product.

As for your other quote, read between the lines :)

Can it detect nearby APs then?

alan0240

APs as in other wireless networks? yes, manage to detect 2 other networks. But my singnet can't be detected...

The PC is in my mum's place (just beside my house). I still have my starhub connected via ethernet. So i wanted to make sure that my PC can connect to the SNBB from my house before i cancel the MOL.

Is there something that i missed out or what..

nope... look for a laptop and go to your mom's place and try first... maybe too weak to detect

cant pass through too many brick walls.

2wire wifi is just 2.4ghz not a gsm network.

maybe in china u can run ur own.

when i bring the laptop connected to the 2wire network into my mum's house, it's still ok. But once i bring it near to the PC, the laptop can't connect to the 2wire then.

SO i guess this is a sign of signal too weak??

since 2 flat... powerline is a no for you.... maybe a wireless repeater(ap/router) is a better alternative for you.... or try to bring 2wire as near to your house as possible... hoping to get some signal

u need a Wireless N adsl router.

For coverage wise,

Aztech 1015EN or TP Link might be able to handle it.
It must be in clear view for best performance.
