When we last left off Intel’s X25-M continued to prove its worth as the best desktop SSD on the market today. But there was new hope in a small controller company based in Korea called Indilinx. Thanks to some quick acting, Indilinx and OCZ were able to put forth the first true value alternative to the X25-M: the Vertex SSD.

Now other manufacturers are beginning to ship Indilinx Barefoot based SSDs and the latest updates to the controller’s firmware make the SSD even faster than what I tested just a week ago.

Although I thought I’d be done with SSDs last week, the saga continues with a few minor updates important to anyone looking to buy an SSD today .......

you sure really better than the Intel one?

is this the Vertex2 aka the Quad RAID built in one ah?

the SLS one is still on the lousy controller or the new one?

where did you get te quad raid idea? the vertex series is using the new indilinx controller instead of the jmicron.

seems like Vertex is still not that "FAST" for random write....sigh....

if you want server grade then SSD is not there yet. Might as well get something more proven first.

what do you mean by "not there yet"? even the X25-M is so much faster than Raptor...but so far no comparison between X25-M vs SAS drive....

because the intel is still quite costly and has the risk of degradation that would impact its performance.

that's not really true.....it cost around $500 for the 80GB. performance degration? perhaps somebody shall do a 1:1 comparison between Raptor's performance degration vs X25-M's.....

HDD also works the similar/same way......
