Its is always advisable to get single plate 500gb instead of 1TB. for external its ok but why for the internal? :s22:

Single platter is faster because denser i believe but it isnt alot of difference i guess.
I am on WD BLACK 640GB RAID 0 X2.
Max speed on HD TUNE is 220mb/sec.
Another point is because if you get 1tb then all data gone if corrupted.
But saying that,i am on raid 0 and its risky too.:X

If TS is looking for 500gb drive, yes, 500gb single platter is a good choice, but how can a single 500gb platter "overclock" itself to 1gb platter?
What if someone need a 2TB hard drive, still go for the 500gb single disc model and apply insane overclocking on it?

Data corruption got nothing to do with the capacity of the drive, we got tons of data corruption during the Seagate 20 mb 5.25" RLL hard drive, if your theory of smaller capacity drive won't cause data corruption is true, then we shouldn't even experienced data corruption with 20mb hard drive let alone 500gb hard drive.

Sorry.
What i meant was if you got 1TB of data on a harddisk instead of a seperate harddisk..
Then when that 1TB spoil, there goes everything.
But if got 2 harddisk then one spoil at least the rest on other hd doesnt go away.
I know since TS wanted maybe a higher capacity then there isnt any wrong in going for 1TB.

Sorry, my bad.:)
But again, the user need to implement data backup mechanism regardless of how big is the drive capacity to safeguard against data lost if the data are important. If there isn't such mechanism in place, whatever drive in use will still risk data lost in the event of drive failure.

Agree!
I am also considering to get an external harddisk to backup.:D
