My niece just signed up for the Starhub Hubber Lite package (CableTV, 2Mbps & Digital Voice) which comes with a Motorola voice modem. She has a TP-Link TL-WRT340G wireless router and a Mac portable.
I have not succeded in getting her wireless to work. Doesn't help that I have no experience in Mac at all so I don't know if there's equivalent settings to "Obtain IP Adress Automatically" etc.
Would appreciate any tips/help.
More specifically, can anyone advise ont he following:-
1. is the Motorola a pure modem or is it a router as well? do i need to set my TP-Link to "bridged-mode" or anything like that?
2. under the WAN connection type on the web-based setup page of the TP-Link, should I select PPPoE or Dynamic IP?
Many thanks

The Motorola is a pure modem. Bridge mode is for a ADSL modem cum router use, not for a pure router, therefore, it's totally not required for the mentioned setup.

Dynamic. PPPoE is for ADSL use, which is not applicable for cable.

for WAN, cable is quite simple, just leave everything to default.
its always recommended to use wired connection to configure the router. otherwise you'll never know what went wrong when you can't even connect to router using wireless connection.
the rest of router configuration info can be taken directly from your router 's user guide (http://www.tp-link.com/english/soft/20081224151228.pdf).
as for mac, although I do have a macbook, I never understand why the airport extreme is so difficult to configure. at the end I bought a DLink wireless-N card. you should ask in apple forum for more info.

It's pretty much the same for Windows - Networking Standards are that - networking standards.
Set it up as you would set it up for any other Windows laptop to connect wirelessly on that same set of equipment, then just connect to the network on the Mac.

Thanks for all the responses and great advice here!:)
Earlier I did try to get it to work with the cable (as epos wisely suggested) but it was still no go. I think it could be because I chose PPoE instead of Dynamic IP (thanks for the advice Pokemon). I did stop to wonder why PPoE asked for Username and Password when Starhub doesn't need Username but I guess I was too conditioned to using PPoE for my Singnet connection!
Good advice Leinad. I was planning on borrowing the TP-Link to try to get it set up to work on my PC first before attempting the Mac. Good to know that I don't have to worry about different settings on the wireless router. I just hope there's no tricky settings on the Mac since i am not familiar with the network settings. Will give it another go this weekend. Cheers.

It should automatically prompt you when it detects the presence of a wireless network. Just enter the wireless passphrase/key, check "Save this network" and that's it.
Nothing to it. ;)
