Hi, hope this is the right place to post. I've been googling this for the past few hours and have called up Singnet and Starhub to ask but still haven't gotten a satisfactory response.

Ok, the thing is I want to surf the internet while overseas without using hotel's connection, without subscribing to a mobile plan like M1's, and without going to an internet cafe.

Is there something like a prepaid card for internet usage that I can buy and hook up to my laptop to use while I'm overseas?

Singnet has advised that the only method is to use my mobile phone (must be on Singtel mobile network) as a modem and connect my mobile phone to my laptop.

Starhub has advised the same but the guy on the phone said it is really expensive (2cents per kb).

I saw something like that on http://www.budgetdialup.com but this is a US site.

Can some kind soul please advise? Thank you!

you may consider the prepaid internet plans offered in the country you are visiting. for example, in sydney and most parts of australia, you can get a Telstra prepaid mobile sim card and purchase a broadband plan to use it.. point to note: it's not that cheap either.... i paid ~A$60-70 for 1Gb of usage..

hi andies, thanks for the info..but this is actually for work so i don't want to go to the country to find out there's no such thing over there, prefer something that is guaranteed. any other options?

i don't have any personal experience on this but i just came across an article which covers this. it said that prepaid Internet is available in Australia (didn't mention other countries or which part of Australia) - i guess similar to what is being offered by M1 here.

what is also interesting is that the article advises you to check with your telco if you are using the telco's 3G+ adapter because it could be locked by the telco. other than having it unlocked, you could use one of those netbooks that has a 3G+ built-in or buy an external USB adapter from Prolink
