Hi. Just gotten a domain name after sooooo much research and doubt.:s22: the amount of registars online is just mind boggling. now i'm looking at those US-based web hosting providers. when i look at those reviews, can't help to feel that they are being paid to praise some particular brands. but i noticed that some providers keep popping out in those top10 lists, like bluehost, host monster, yahoo hosting etc etc. i'm leaning towards these 3 now, so wondering if it's a good idea to sign up for them.
however, after doing some search in hwz, it seems that many prefer local webhosting. are local hosting better than popular US-based hosting(say bluehost or yahoo)?
thanks!:o

i see. but if mine is worldwide, is it a no brainer to go with bluehost or yahoo? or are there still advantages using singapore hosting? (assuming i have a direct line to call usa for hosting support, so customer support isn't a factor.)

I would say go for U.S webhosting. You wont have any legal problems with the authorities in singapore then :)

For the domain registrar go with a local one if you are not with NameCheap or GoDaddy.
For hosting I would go with a reputable one so you don't find your site down without any notification.
If you really want to get hosting from a specific location then consider your audience.

lol, u wrote as if TS going host illegal contents
well, TS is right with the paid comments, and even ratings, esp "Top10s" as well.

Most of those top hosts sites are not reliable. More often than not, these sites are just affilates of those web hosting companies. The top hosts on their sites are usually just those that offer good commissions.

well if you are actually gonna host stuff that violates the DMCA policy (copyrighted content), you will be cracked down no matter where the host is. If you intent to make defamatory comments about the local government, you will still be arrested even if the content is hosted on foreign soil. The right to freedom of speech only applies to people on U.S soil proper. but of course if you go for those bulletproof hosting eg. in russia or panama, then another story :o

hi ... i recommend hawkhost.
one of the best US webhosting companies. Don't fall for the unlimited space/bandwidth trick by companies like hostgator, lunarhosting, bluehost etc.. they are just overselling.
You may view webhostingtalk for the host reviews

true enough, unlimited space and bw really appeals to newbies in hosting a website as they dont really need so much resources for a start.
so my advice to TS is that get the cheapest host and try out.. know the ins and outs of hosting before moving on to a quality one.. and depending on ur usage and how much u are willing to pay..
no point pay a tiptop host for a start and not utilizing it..
