Hi guys,

Looking for some advise here... My old WRT54G seem to be like fizzling out soon. Thinking of moving to wireless N if my old router is really dying...

Do u think it is advisable to move to N now or shld I hang on till the old router dies and the N standard fully ratified by next year?

Buy what your budget can afford.

There's no end at to when the n standard will be ratified. It's currently predicted to be completed by the begining of next year. I suppose that you have use for a router so if yours is not working out just get a replacement.

Ok... Then if there is a change in the standard like maybe hardware or something?

You read my above statement again.
Does getting N (ratified standard or not) really matter for you? Or more because you just wanted a better router?

Either way, if some products out there failed to comply when the standard is out, you have 2nd hand stuff to go for.

Try to look for routers with at least three years warranty. This way, when n is ratified end of this year, there is a chance you might get final n if your router fails and you go for rma.

nowadays N routers such as DIR-655 or DIR-855 has a more powerful processor and features such as qos or shareport or etc

but there are other brands that run N band signal but are les powerful and less feature set too correct?

so if we buy those, what is the advantage sia, eg like TPlink / Planex or Prolink N router which have no USB or gb lan ports...

taking example

say if u are running a dgl-4300 gaming router from d-link, now you change to tp-link or planex or prolink wireless N, you might actually be downgrading the performance of your router in exchange for wireless N which may or may not give u a better wireless range and throughput

but if u are using dgl-4300 and you switched to dir-655 or dir-855, you are upgrading to a stronger ubicom processor which can handle more load than dgl-4300 (theoretically) and better wireless performance as dgl-4300 is G while the other is N

that said, i dont mean all N routers now are better in performance than current G
