Well, I've been using this package for a month. One thing for sure is the 2wire modem/router really sucks when it has to handle a few hundred concurrent connections not to mention the stupid firewall also DHCP server cannot handle PXE. My plan is to set up my Athlon 64 3000+ to become a router.

Phone line
|
2Wire (bridge mode)
|
AMD Athlon 64 3000+ 1GB RAM - OpenBSD (pf, NAT, dhcpd, pppoe)
|
SWITCH
| | | |
| | | |
| | | Computers
| | |
| | Linksys WRT54GS (for WIFI)
| |
| Mio Box
| |
| TV
|
Linksys PAP2T
|
Home phones

I need the Linksys P2P2T because I cant find and PCI FSX device for less than $100.
The router must stay in my room since the telephone line only comes to my room and I cant use the Linksys WRT54GS as a router because I need to put an AP in the middle of the house so every one can have good singnel strength.

The questions:
1. Will it work?
2. Is there any better alternative?

Thanks :)

Not sure what you meant.
There is only one 2wire in bridge mode in my setup.

should connect your mio box directly to your 2wire (even in bridge mode).

I used this to solve everything

ST536 ---- Switches ---- Mio tv and Wireless router.

Personally find ST536 is more stable than 2 wire .

Hi,

I just got a Linksys PAP2T this afternoon and after some configurations, manage to get it to work with Singtel MIO Voice.

The PAP2T sits behind a DLINK ADSL2+ Wireless N router. No specific configurations needed for the router side.

for the Linksys PAP2T, you will need to have the following details
1. Your home MIO Voice number
2. Your password, if you don't have it, you can call Singtel tech helpline to ask for the password

To configure your PAP2T (I am using Firmware version 3.1.15(SL)):

1. Point your browser to the box (by default the IP address is dynamically allocated from your DHCP router)
2. You will see the user Login page, look at the top right corner, you should see "Admin Login" link, click it.
3. Once in the admin login, click on the "Line 1" tab (Assuming you have connected your phone to Line 1)
4. You will need to fill out the following details (leave everything else as default)

SIP Port: 5060
Proxy: voip.singtel.com
Register: Yes
Make call without reg: No
Ans call without reg: No
Register Expires: 3600

Display Name: (Put in your MIO voice phone number)
User ID: (Put in your MIO voice phone number)
Password: (Put in the password you got from Singtel)
Use Auth ID: No
Auth ID: (Leave Blank)

5. Click Save settings

AFter 15 seconds it should put you into the info page, when you look at Line 1 status, it should show that "Registration State: Online" and you are now set to go.

Good Luck!!

Ammendments:
1. I noticed that after I configured this, I can do outbound call but inbound call, the caller would not be able to hear my voice. I solve this by going to the SIP Setting and turning on advance view, then setting the RTP packet size down from the default .30 to .20

2. I also noticed that after dialing a number it takes a long time before it actually gets through. I changed the dialplan to be more Singapore specific:
(*xx|[2-9]xxxxxxxS0|991S0|995S0|<911:995>S0|<000:995>S0|1xxxS0|019[2-9]x.|1800xxxxxxx)

This should allow local sing numbers including the 4 digits ones and emergency numbers and 1800 numbers. I have also mapped 911 and 000 to 995 number.

the only thing I see already suggested by others. MIO TV should be connect to the 2Wire devices.

If you feel 2Wire suck in multi-connection for internet. From what I see. your AMD supposely be the router + gateway. But I dont think AMD with BSD support PPPoE?

2Wire 2701 as far as I understand support multi ADSL connection - i.e. Singtel also change some setting I think.

So .. What I can see in my suggestion as follow

1. Set 2701 as bridge mode and let AMD do the PPPoE (provided it support PPPoE)
this way .. AMD do all the routing and etc.

2. Set 2701 as default also. Disable your voice in 2701. Set AMD still to do PPPoE
AMD still the key devices for routing and internet connection.

See this thread to understand better.

I've found all everyone very useful, esp banana123's post about the PAP2T config.

I've made some changes to the dial plan though, as I need to do trunk calls to M'sia.

Here's my dialplan:(*xx|[2-9]xxxxxxxS0|99xS0|1xxxS0|019[2-9]x.|1800xxxxxxx|1511xx.|001xx.|020xx.)

Here's the breakdown:

99xS0 - will dial without delay any emergency nos. Can probably replace the 995S0 & 991S0 with it, but my balls shrink, and it doesn't hurt to leave the old one in. Btw, emergency call 991 is for what ah? I can't remember...

EDIT: I took out the all the other emergency stuff in the dialplan, as they are unneeded, and dangerous. ESPECIALLY the "<911:995>S0" one. I called the SCDF twice just now...reason being that there are hp numbers starting with 911...

1511xx. & 001xx. - for international dialing. Is to supplement the existing v019 callplan.

020xx. - for Malaysia trunk call. I noticed that this makes the system wait quite a while before I hear ringtone. You can supplement by placing the following in front of this callplan to speed up landline:

020[38]xxxxxxxx (8 Xs) - for KL & E. Msia
020[45679]xxxxxxx (7 Xs) - for everywhere else
0201[01236789]xxxxxxx (7 Xs) - for HPs
0201[45]xxxxxxx (7 Xs) - for new HP nos

Some dialplan tutorials:

http://www.netphonedirectory.com/pap2_dialplan.htm
http://forum.voxilla.com/linksys-sipura-voip-support-forum/do-craft-dial-plan-string-9511.html

That's all I've got for now. If got any optimisations or addtions, please share :)

Also need to figure out how to make the ringing sound more like local phones...

MAJOR CHANGE!!!!

The dial plan can actually be just (xx.)This plan just passes all numbers upstream, without any processing.

The reason why the old dialplan was put in place was just to shorten the wait time between you finish entering the number, and the device acknowledging and performing the call.

There is a setting we can change to shorten this wait time. On the web interface, in regional advanced settings -> Control Timer Values section, we got Interdigit Long Timer, and Interdigit Short Timer.

Long Timer - How many seconds to wait between each keypress before deciding the number is complete, and acknowledging the number.

Short Timer - How many seconds to wait from when handset is picked up, and any key is pressed. If none pressed in time, give the busy tone.

So the most interesting one is the Long Timer. The original setting is nuts - 10 secs. Set this to something low, like 3, and see if it's to your liking. Don't set so low until you no time to key in the whole number.

Press # after number shld be able to quickly get the call through to the VSP.
