Read your TOS and SLA for your broadband line.

Always telling people, residential lines are best effort speeds. You will never get the true advertised speed, the speed quoted is always the uplink to the ISP, and even then it's not dedicated.

If you think you're line is unusually slow compared to the already slow residential services. Here are some steps to verify.

1. To check if you're getting the full line speed, go and try to dl or surf to servers or sites you know are on the singnet network. Best is to try to DL large linux distros off NUS or something. This is the best indicator of local line speed.

2. check that you're source is obviously not in timbucktoo (residential has little international bw) and that it's not busy. People forget to remeber server and their lines also carry a limit. It's arguably the best kept secret that ISPs ALSO shortchange server owners by selling 'em 1Mbps server uplinks.

3. check your modem uplink statistics, like if there's noise or interference on the line, check technical stuff like the filters and whatnot.

if you're local line speed is good and there's no interference in the line, then it's safe to say you're download source has a busy line or you're international speed is crap.

only solution call singnet to resolve, if they don't resolve it as they always do, upgrade.

I know its daylight robbery, but bw does not come cheap.

Are you sure the download is 350kbps? Please note the case on the 'b'.

kbps = 'kilo bits per second'
kBps = 'kilo bytes per second' which translates into kbps x 8

So in your case, if download is at 350kBps, then your speed is 350 x 8 = 2800 kbps which is close to your rated speed. Usually applications report download speeds at kBps

If your download is indeed at 350kbps, then u have a problem :)
