Would like to see how many people using DHCP to run their network.
Using Static IPs on my network for the following reasons.
1. Security - Static IPs allow you to identify what computer and who is running on the network. Helps speed up network device detection.
2. Router Performance - DHCP Server running on router takes up the router's processing power. With the DHCP server turned off, your router can allocate more of it's processing power to routing.
3. Speed and Reliability - Static IPs do not need to wait for the DHCP server to assign them an IP, they can connect straight away with little hassle as possible.
downsides:
1. Administration: Static IPs require you to have some degree of expertise and control over all systems on the network. Also, DHCP becomes more festiable if you have over 20 or 30+ different devices not owned or controlled by you operating on the network.
