Is the DIR-655 only limited to 10 QoS rules or are there any way to add more?

Anyone? I'm sure there are quite a number of DIR-655 users here.

No one?

If it's really only limited to 10 then it's sort of a deal-breaker.

I'm actually looking to buy this router since it has got a dozen of positive reviews about it. DD-WRT won't work on it since it's not Broadcom-based but I thought D-Link's firmware will work just well for QoS, but if it's only limited to 10 rules then I think it's just quite sad.

I like more rather than limited.

Anyway this is no doubt a solid router, I may buy this if all the Linksys routers I'm targeting are crap.

Just set a specific range, and cause some of the adjustable program to run within the port range lor, this way, you can effectively use the 10 entries to control a wide range of application.

yup exactly, some of the application put them in the same range of ports.
that will be the best solution

I think the 655 is designed with only 10 QoS entries as most are already automatically taken care of by its smart QoS algorithm. Sometimes, having too many QoS rules would compromise the performance of the device, esp. when it isn't designed for enterprise/complex QoS. For a SOHO-class router, 10 QoS with already smart QoS in the background, should be sufficient for most users.

Can you list out 11 rules that you will QoS on your current setup? Interested to know what and how many rules are you using.

So the saying is that, you wont be using more than 10 la?
Then it dosn't matter if its more or not mah

Its how u think and turn the 10 rules to your advantage :)

I see. Perhaps you can fork out more money for better routers. :)

It's more in the firmware rather than the router. It's just sad that DIR-655 is not supported by DD-WRT since it's not Broadcom-based.

I had planned to get the Linksys WRT350N, it is a little better than the DIR-655 hardware-wise. Its default Linksys firmware could be crap but there's still DD-WRT.

What's stopping me? I can't find it anywhere in Singapore, even after combing the whole of SLS.

And the other 2 Linksys which I am targetting, WRT310N and WRT610N have DD-WRT, but hardware-wise they suck. The former runs too hot, the latter is unstable on simultaneous dual-band.

DD-WRT don't just support bcm based routers leh
Have you read thru chaicka's post #10?

Oh, not to be rude, but pls remember. The router firmware code is fixed, ur brain's not.

I'm still curious about the ten rules. I was hoping ts to really list down his required rules here. It would be a pity if some router is dropped due to qos rules when there is work around. The opportunity cost is there.

he already mentioned he doesn't want to be restricted to the router's fixed number of QoS rules.

In any case, adding more rules requires memory and memory is limited in the hardware anyway, makes no difference whether the firmware allows "unlimited" rules, it'll still be limited depending on usage and configuration.

Well, he already has his answers, just up to him whether he likes what he now knows or not.
