Hi all,
Please help!! I am using linksys router - WRT54G v3.1 together with maxonline. I have 1 pc (wired) and 1 laptop (Wireless) connected to this linksys router.
I am unable to access to the internet whenever the router and the modem is switched off and on again. In order for me to access internet again I have to restore the settings to factory defaults after which i will need to setup the router password and the wireless security settings again.
However, if I did not do anything to the settings, there is no problem accessing internet after i switched off and on the router and modem.
Any guru please advice me.. Feel free to ask any question if you need any more info.. Thanks in advance..

You said you have to restore the settings to factory defaults to access the Net.
Yet you say you didn't do anything to the settings to access the Net.
And lastly trace the problem down to one source. You are going to spend a huge deal of time if you don't know where the problem lies.

For the second point, I mean after I restore to factory default and let it remain as it is, I will still be able to access internet even after I switched off then on again. Please help!!

You may want to try a 3rd party firmware like Tomato for your router:

The problem isn't nailed yet and you are suggesting a change of firmware?
Not that I don't support 3rd-party firmware but rather if such thing are done hastily it usually leads to errors and eventually the whole thing gets bricked.

Did u install the driver?? I have a linksys router. But I did not have any problems like yours. If i on and off, i still can connect to the internet? Or maybe u may want to go to the shop you bought it and ask the assistance for help??

What driver are you talking about?
If he didn't install any driver for his Ethernet and WiFi he wouldn't even be able to connect.

basically
TS how old is ur router??
if more then 3 yrs time to upgrade cos linksys RMA for WRT54G is 3 yrs.
have u tried to check with linksys
do note changing firmware on the router will not help if it is a hardware issue

ok...
so it like u can access the net when u are on dafault settings.
but cannot access when u set the security measures right?
Can it be u type in the wrong encrpytion key when connected to the network??
just a thought.

After powering the router/modem off and on, how long did you wait to confirm that it's not responding?
Does your OS happen to be Vista...? If not, please state which one.
I faced similar problem previously with my Linksys WRT350N, but resolved on its own somehow, probably due to some Vista automatic updates, or that it was after I updated the Realtek LAN driver to the latest then (highly likely). I really can't confirm since I didn't test back then, but you might just want to try updating as well.

You got the Linksys WRT350N? Where did you purchase it?

I think I bought it about 2 years ago when it was first available then.
Nothing fantastic. A D-Link DIR-655 would have been a better choice...
