TS, pls do some background reading on NBN (http://www.ida.gov.sg/Infrastructure/20060919190208.aspx).

On 26 September 2008, the OpenNet Consortium was selected as the Next Gen NBN NetCo. The OpenNet Consortium is led by Axia NetMedia Corporation, and comprises Singapore Telecommunications Ltd, Singapore Press Holdings Ltd and SP Telecommunications Pte Ltd. OpenNet, as the NetCo, will design, build and operate the passive infrastructure of the Next Gen NBN. The Singapore Government will provide a grant of up to S$750 million to the NetCo to support the network rollout.

OpenNet will offer attractive wholesale prices (http://www.ida.gov.sg/Infrastructure/20090204131831.aspx#wp) of S$15 per month per residential fibre connection and S$50 per month per non-residential fibre connection, to operating companies. Such wholesale prices are expected to bring about competitive retail prices in the ultra-high speed broadband market. Under a Universal Service Obligation (http://www.ida.gov.sg/Infrastructure/20090204131831.aspx#uso), which will take effect from 2013, OpenNet will be required to fulfill all subsequent requests to install first termination points (http://www.ida.gov.sg/Infrastructure/20090204131831.aspx#ftp) in homes, offices and buildings.

OpenNet will deploy and own all the fibre optic cables and offer wholesale dark fibre (http://www.ida.gov.sg/Infrastructure/20090204131831.aspx#df) services to downstream operators on a non-discriminatory basis. To facilitate the deployment of its fibre network, OpenNet will make use of relevant existing underlying passive infrastructure assets, such as ducts, manholes and exchanges, belonging to its partner, Singapore Telecommunications (SingTel). As part of OpenNet’s proposal, SingTel has committed to transfer these underlying assets to a neutral party within 24 months of the NetCo’s Contractual and Financial Close. The Contractual and Financial Close is scheduled take place within seven months of the NetCo RFP award (September 2008). The neutral party, called the Asset Company or AssetCo, will be an independent and separately managed company. It will be owned by a registered business trust or will be structured in a similar manner to be approved by IDA.

give you an inch you want a yard...
the purpose is for faster connection within singapore, it was never meant to give you 100mbps to USA
that speed would most probably not happen in our lifetime anyway so you can stop dreaming now :s13:

I wonder how much is the wholesale price for the current connections, such as SingNet 10Mbs, so that at least we have something to refer.

Singnet charges 512k @ $15 onwards.. That's why you no longer see Pacnet offering consumer plans around due to the higher charges involved..

As for SH, they charge M1 and Pacnet $21 for 1Mbps up till $35 for 100Mbps lo...

I think these charges are simply too high liao... That's why no foreign investors.. Hai..

I don't think it will solve all your internet problems, but it will allow you newer ways to use your new found high speed connection. Alot of local website are mainly hosted on 10mbps shared connectivity, few like CNA, gov sites have gbe connectivity. In some cases, a lot of website might appear slower due to the lack of bandwidth, or will have no difference due to bandwidth limiter (throttling) to avoid saturation of their link by a single user.

Latency is one part which i will benefit from the lower latency of the fiber network, but that is only locally applicable.
