That boxy thing you mentioned is actually the Alcatel splitter.
In the earlier magix days, your house's tel wires had to be re-arranged and then one tel socket chosen to be connected to this splitter. In this way, you don't need to use any of those microfilters.
Since you cut it away, might as well call Singtel to send technician down to re-wire your tel cables back to original configuration. But, it might cost you some money though.

The older Magix service using this Alcatel splitter - I think very few technicians know how to go about doing it. Better to call up Singtel Magix and get them to send down a technician to do it for you. You can always ask them the price b4 hand.
And after the Singtel technician has re-configured your house tel wires back to the original configuration, you no longer have to use this single boxy Alcatel splitter, however, you need to use microfilters already.
NB: There was once my family called a private contractor to replace my house aging tel cables...the fella dun know anything about Magix ATM using the Alcatel splitter...and he wired my tel wires back into the original configuration and totally konked off both my tel and magix signal. Lesson to be learned: Get the qualified technician from singtel. Anyway, the Singtel Magix technician was very frenly and he helped to re-wire my tel cable again to use with my Alcatel splitter FOC. :D

Even the Alcatel 1000 brick is like, well, antique. Banished from earth.
