View Full Version : Portforwarding on MIO!

Hi all.
I've been having problems with portforwarding on my 2Wire 2701HGV-E router, A.K.A MIO. I'm using a 8mbps plan from Singtel.
Apparently I've bought a game that uses P2P to play online, thus I'll need to get past this portforward crap.
I've followed the guide on Portforward.com and nope, definitely doesn't work. Portforward's PortChecker claims my ports are closed. All my firewalls have been disabled when conducting the portcheck.
I've heard and seen that Singtel has some issues with portforwarding, but I'm sure there is a way around? I don't see how Singtel would gain if all their consumers are unable to use P2P applications.
Namely, the ports I need to open are 6073 UDP and 6100-6200 UDP. Its for a game called Demigod, in case anyone plays it successfully online with a MIO.
Is there any help here? I'm a total idiot in networking, so any help is appreciated. :s12:
Thanks!

I dont know abt the game in question, but unless you're acting as a host, you do not need to actually port forward connection.

I dont know abt the game in question, but unless you're acting as a host, you do not need to actually port forward connection.
The game uses a P2P connection to play online, and needs the ports specified to be opened. I use Portforward's PortChecker and even after portforwarding on the 2Wire router page, the checker claims my ports are still closed, and I am still unable to connect online as a proof. Firewalls are disabled when testing.
Is it that Singtel is blocking these ports? Or has anyone been able to forward their ports successfully? I might want to contact Singtel soon on this matter, because even after setting DMZPlus mode (or is to allow ALL ports through), PortChecker STILL claims my ports are closed. I really think its a fault on Singtel's part as I know I portforwarded correctly.
IF there is any kind soul out there that uses a MIO and has portforwarded and can kindly help me test the PortChecker out, I will be eternally grateful.
http://www.portforward.com/help/portcheck.htm
Its a small file, just download and test out a port you forwarded before and tell me if the checker claims its open or close. Seeing it comes from portforward's website, I doubt it will have errors in it but, I really do hope the checker is glitched and that my ports ARE opened. (LOL)
I've really hit a wall and I've been trying to solve this portforward crap for two weeks or so, with ABSOLUTELY no light of success.
ANY help is appreciated. Even free bumps ):

YourIP?
Well, the port forward checker relies on an external server as well as you knowing the basic stuff on a port-based firewall.
Its hard to know if the external server is actually working. There are better port test sites.
P2P: Pay2Play or Peer2Peer?

Peer2Peer definitely, or I wouldn't be banging my head on the wall literally.
What other websites are there to test for the ports? I'm DESPERATE... As the game itself has some connection issues on its own end, I've heard complains on Singtel with issues on THEIR end. Then I might also have something blocking my own ports which I might not know, so I really don't know where the issue lies.
I tried YourIP's scan with IE and this is what it says...

Meh? I tested this with firewall on. I'll turn it off and try again, though I'm 99% sure I'll get the same darn thing.
Edit: Disabling firewall makes no damn difference. I think I'm screwed.

Go to the 2wire MDC. Under Firewall --> Detailed information --> Pinholes, do you see the ports you forwarded listed? If not, reboot the 2wire. If you've port forwarded correctly, you should see the ports forwarded under the pinholes.
I've port forwarded ports 20 & 21 and some other for passive ftp on the 2wire 2700. Need me a few days to find out that the 2wire needs to be reboot.

i am talking about what is ur current IP addr... not a website
A port-based firewall by default prevents ALL incoming connection. Even if you DMZ the whole PC, the result will still be closed. Why? Because there is no listening application on the PC itself to accept connection. Hence a TCP connection cannot be made.
Similarly, why the TCP port checker from portforward.com is not useful is also because of the above reasons. You have to ensure the software is unrestricted on Windows firewall itself and is actually binded to the intended port on the OS, before doing a port forward on the router and then testing it. Talk about the hassle. Doing it with ur BT client is better instead

...So what do I do? :look:
I only understand half of it.
Anyway, how am I to find my IP address? Every different website I go to gives me a different address.
Taken from ipconfig in cmd: (if this helps)
IPv4 Address: 192.168.1.69
Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway: 192.168.1.254
From whatismyip:
Your IP Address Is: 121.6.182.123
Other IPs Detected: 220.255.7.249
Proxy Server Detected!
(proxy test results)
Proxy Server IP address: 220.255.7.241
Proxy Server Details: 220.255.7.241
Proxy Reports IP as: 121.6.182.123
(Unable to confirm.)
No clue which, but only the default gateway one works in my browser. All other IP address I try doesn't work on my Firefox.
REALLY sorry. I'm hell idiot in networking. I REALLY appreciate your help. (no sacarsm)
Thanks!

Pinhole information please.
Have to see if you've satisfied the 2 criteria listed above.

Here it is.

I got in with the password 2wire. Correct I suppose?

What do you mean? I did assign 6073 individually, then assigned 6100-6200 in a range, but my ports refuse to open? Is this a problem on Singtel's end? Or it could be the portchecker I use be glitchly, but others have found it fine and that it does detect the ports correctly. I've a strong feeling Singtel is at fault and theres really nothing I can do.

like i said in previous post mah, assign 6073 individually and not in a lump range.
you're creating a conflict in the setting hence it cannot be assigned.

check ur pinhole again and you will know why 6073 is inside the lump range.
remove that entry first, set an individual pf of 6073, followed by 6100 - 6200

OK. I shall try and reply with the results.
Thanks for the advice anyway !!

Sad to say, it hasn't worked. I really think it might be a fault on the game's end but how do I check if I have properly forwarded my ports? All the port checks I've taken claims my ports are closed. As long as I can confirm my ports are open, I'm satisfied, really. Is there any reliable port checker that actually works?

Go get any popular bittorrent client, any will do, i.e. uTorrent, bitcomet, Azureus etc.
Set the stated port on the program, accept it in Windows firewall. Pf in router.
Start torrenting.
A green circle, tick means port is working. This will be a good indication for you.

I have portforwarded for uTorrent and allowed it through my firewalls. I see a tiny green tick at the bottom saying 'Your network is working like it should'.
Good start I hope? But my torrents are downloading at a measly 5kb/s with 34seeds and 5peers.
Edit: The torrent speed goes up slowly, so ignore me for my ignorance. Still, the PFPortChecker claims my ports are closed even after forwarding. Everyone else who uses the PFPortChecker says the Portchecker works normally, showing ports as open when it should.
TS, use this link (https://www.grc.com/x/portprobe=6073)to check your port 6073... that software may not be that reliable.

Its closed because the checker claims its TCP 6073. I forwarded 6073 UDP..
Furthermore, it says ''The GRC server is attempting to establish a TCP connection to Port 6073 of your computer located at Internet at IP address 116.14.9.137''. I think by default, the 2Wire gateway forwards my ports to my internal IP, 192.168.1.69.
Furthermore, many are using the PF Portchecker and they work perfectly fine for just about everyone. I'm beginning to feel this is a problem on Singnet's end, blocking out ports etc.
