need help i can not ping to computer name, but can ping to ip address

i have a window 2003 server, it's host as a antivirus server as well

my problem is

all others xp pc antivirus software connect to the win03 server for updating virus database
through the server name.

as i cant ping to the server name, so all my antivirus software for all xp pcs can not get updated.

but i have no issue pinging the ip address

what is the solution to get the server computer name working?

the host name has been assign to the server and has been add accordingly.

the problem is network unable to access thru the host name. but ip has no issue

Where exactly did you assign or add that?

Is there any DNS Server in the network?

Trying restarting "Computer Browser" service in the server.

Make sure "Routing and Remote Access" service is disabled.

Then ping the server hostname from your XP PC.
