I am noob at internet connection, so hope you guys can help me. My free modem which i get from my starhub contract 4 years ago finally die on me.

I cannot renew my contract to get a new modem, so if i go to store like challenger.. and buy a new cable modem. What do i need to configure? Or i can just plug and play like the modem starhub give?

Also if i buy from 'outside' what spec do i need to look out for?

if you got a new modem you need to inform starhub the mac id for your new modem so that they can enable it. Only then you can access the internet.

Here is the list of Starhub's Approved Cablemodems.

You can buy the modems from Starhub Shops if I am not mistaken.

Starhub Shops: http://www.starhub.com/portal/site/StarHub/menuitem.1766d838f736b00a90e09a608324a5a0/?vgnextoid=0443a70ed1c7c010VgnVCM10000038425a0aRCRD

After you buy your new modem, just use the Online update form to update your new cablemodem's MAC ID. The form will inform starhub of your new cablemodem's MAC ID:

Hope this helps you out!

Yes, I bought mine from the Starhub shop. They did the MAC ID change for me and all is set. Check to see if you have sufficient reward points (if you have not redeemed them before) because it is possible that you may have accumulate sufficient points to claim a free modem. If not, it should not be too expensive to get one.

Your other option would be to get the modem from someone who has a spare one and willing to sell. In which case, you will need to tell Starhub what your new MAC ID is to get it activated.

for a full redemption of a voice-enabled motorola modem you need 3000 points and for a partial redemption you need 1500 points and top up $45. Thats very cheap.
