View Full Version : OPtions for a 12 month broadband connection?
Hey!
I am moving into a rental apartment for 12 months in August It doesn't come with internet access, and the landlord says I'll have to make my own arrangemts.
The flat is also NOT Starhub cable-ready.
I've visited the various broadband providers but notice all of them only have 24 mth month plans, with the exception of Singtel, that has Singnet 3mbs broadband for 12 mths at $47 a month, which is quite high!
Am I missing out on something? I just need a basic connection for email, surfing and occasional video streaming. No heavy file downloading.
Thanks!

Get M1 mobile broadband... 6 Months commitment...
Your requirements:
12months of internet
No heavy data download or upload
Not SCV ready
Recommendations:
Most likely Fixed broadband is not for you.
Go for mobile broadband.
Singtel or M1 or Starhub provide such service. Pretty sure U can sign up for their Mobile BB on a monthly basis, cept that U will nt have the promotional pricing meant for 2 year contract.

Singtel BBoM does not require any contract, though with contract, it will be cheaper.
I think I'll pay the hello! shop a visit today.
Another option will be to transfer my parent's broadband account, which has <12 mths left on contract, to my new place, and have them sign up for a new account.
Anyone have any experience with the fees involved? I saw a Singnet document which listed the transfer of account fee at $10, and relocation fee at $42. WOnder if there's anything else involved.

Yup there's de-activation and activation fee respectively at $42 each to shift an Singtel ADSL connection.. So it's not worth the money..
Mobile BB is still the better option..
Hi!
Paid the Hello! Shop a visit and this is what I found out
3Mbps connection, without contract, is $57 a month! Bo hua
1Mbps Singtel Broadband Mobile, 12 month contract, $30+ a month. But modem cannot be connected to a router.
I found out that my family's broadband contract expires this month. The plan's to continue subscribing to it without renewing the contract. I'll then apply for a new 24mth Singnet broadband account for the rental apartment. When I move out after 12 mths, I'll cancel the family's current plan (coz it's no longer on contract) and transfer the new one over and my family can serve the rest of the contract. Costs only $40!
Thanks for your all advice

I think Qmax uses the Wireless@SG network. I don't think my rental flat is covered by it.
Thanks for the suggestion, though!
