View Full Version : Starhub BB Ultimate Intermittent DC

Hi,
Im new to this forum.
Been having intermittent DC problem with my SB6100 modem since last sat 20-Jun. The problem may happen 2-4 in an hour. The DC is very obvious when i was in WOW game. The modem send rev light would go off and came back off and sometimes, all the lights on the modem goes off and came back on after sometime.
The starhub tech came down 3 times and was unable to resolve the issue. 1st time, they swap my cable point saying it is due ot weak signal. 2nd time they changed my modem. 3rd time, they said it is due to a shorted connector and replaced one for me. And ask me to monitor.
The problem persisted.
As the modem is in my room, I even tried shifting it to the living room's cable point. But the problem persisted.
Well, Im kindda at my wits end now. Anyone experiencing the same problem ? Appreciate any advice in anyway. Living in Hougang btw.

Ya, they did use the meter and probe the cable point. Before the 1st technician swap the cable point, the signal was weak, after swapping the point, he told me that the signal was ok.

Glad to hear im not the only one.
Could it be due to some cable construction works going around recently ? I saw M1 construction works along some roads near my estate. :look:

same here , i had to either re start my pc or switch off and on the modem for it to be re-connected again .. this issue started since friday nite

Same prob on 27 june, Customer service told me there been some upgrade during this june to SB 6100, issue could cause the D/C.
Upgrade also never inform us, cause us so much inconvenient. Waste our time...:(

I am also having this problem too. Need to power on and off my modem to fix this. Been happening since i shifted to Windows 7, thought that was the reason i keep dcing. Now i know its because of starhub >.<

Oh, I wasn't told they are doing some kind of upgrading to the cable network :s11:.. Zzz ..
Anyway, just an update. My DC problem started again yesterday night at ard 10+ pm. :(

How long is your d/c?, i'm last d/c was SAT was 9pm to 12am, i called the cust service, the damn starhub technician never update me. I call about 10.30pm to cust service they told me that technician still working on it. Till 12am plus my internet still down, Damn wonder if they Are doing their work.
This is the 2nd time i experience long hours internet D/C
Not to mention about intermittent d/c over the months. Their service really sux, I can't submit my work on time. Called but nobody to help.

The intermittent DC started at 8pm again ....
God .. how long will these DC continue .. looks likes Starhub is not doing anything about it.. :(

My 6100 cannot get ip address. Till now still DC writing this from my blackberry storm. Staying in Toa Payoh. Thought only one with this problem.

So did they tell you probably is ur modem prob?.... Coz they said is my SB6100 modem prob due to their "Upgrading" SB 6100 is not compatible.
The cust serv, don't know anything, Get their starhub manager to solve ur prob.
Starhub Cust Serv is just wasting time......

Same as me last SAT, i also D/c from 9pm till 12am plus..... Call cust serv, also no help.
Think Starhub.... this time round cause lot of prob for SB6100 Modem user,
Starhub T-loan me the SB6120 to test my home network for a week.
Call and complain to their manager

I'm on the SB6100 modem and still having several intermittent DC last night 14-Jul since 8pm+. If it does, I think i may have to get the new SB6120 modem ....

Seem like your modem may have some problem if u got frequency d/c even during weekday, you can get the technician at starhub HQ to do a Test check on your modem signal strength too.

They checked my signal. Said it was good and strong. Replaced my modem too with another SB6100. It din help ... :(

You can try SB6120, since D/c just started on june due to upgrade.
Ask starhub to T- loan the new modem, since replace of SB6100 did not solve your prob.

Is not a modem problem. Is island wide problem. Many people know it and encounter it. Except Starhub is till saying no.

My SB6100 modem having the same DC problem and the problem is I have to call Starhub service to reconnect it back. I can't turn on and off the modem to get the connection back. The DC will last for 4 to 6 hours without any connection.
Now waiting for the contract to be up and terminate it, no point pay $100-00 a month to be only use for 15 days.

I'm staying around the same area as you, and yeah, i have this stupid problem... I have made so many calls to starhub to complain and yet time and again, they deny having problems.
Anyway my contract is going to end next week, so most probably jump ship as i had my fair share of crap from sh for the past few years..

Same here in AMK, not sure whether it's the same cause as you all, maybe my modem too old or faulty (SB 3100), will be getting a SB5101 soon and see how, anyway you all could off and on your modem if DC, or release your IP address and renew it yourself to get back the connection, if you call the customer serv. you can expect to wait up to 24 hrs for them to call back :s12:

Did they replace your modem with a refurbished set?
Last week when they came to my house after suspecting my modem was faulty, they wanted to replace it with a refurbished unit (SB5100-SB5100). However, after some persistent insist that they test out both modems, they discovered that the modem they wanted to swap for me is of poorer condition.
I rejected the exchange on the spot and insist the technician trace the problem.
Then, he also told me my signal was a little weak (-51.7dB). Typical signal level should be -36dB to -45dB but he refused to do anything. In the mist of testing, the problem suddenly hit and he dropped the cable in from my TAP point to my modem and he tell me it was working than he went on to conclude that the cable coming from the TAP to my point is faulty.
Got so upset as both points he tested, he said the same thing. I refused to sign the service form and the technical support from StarHub handling my case called me immediately and he say he will arrange their Network Engineer to come down to fix the problem. True enough, the team came on the same day and concluded that problem lies with the amplifier unit distributing the signal to my block. They rectified the problem and till now, it has been 1 week. Problem looks to have been resolved.
My point, insist that they do a 100% check to solve the problem.

I think SH outsource to third party technicans to cut cost - that's why there is a drop in service quality...
If the technicans cannot solve, insist on SH sending down one of their own engineers...

I reasoned with him my dissatisfaction with Starhub's frequent DC's. And I told him that I insist to get a waiver from payment. After long deliberations with him he offered me a one week waiver from my plan. Which as I calculated would amount to about $20 something. I felt that it was only right that they give me this refund because of the trouble they caused me.
So bros, go for it.... It is only right that they should not make us pay for their non delivery of service.

Woah, I am impressed. I hate to do it cause by the time I get that $20 waiver (if it will ever happen), I would expect to be on the line for more than 1 hour on the phone, including waiting time. It is just not worth it unless I can convince them to rescind my contract, which is a hefty $2k penalty for me. :D
How can be show the proof of intermittent DC so that we can send to IDA or something ?

Yup having this problem too and there is at least 2 other threads here talking about the same problem. I'm paying 81 per month and I'm now relegated to be using wireless@sg in mac, what is this nonsense??!!:s27::s27:

The technicians was of no help.
I've went over to starhub shop and gotten a SB6120 modem at 170 bucks. Have been using it for more than a week. The DC problem seems to have stopped... for now ? .. crossing my fingers.. for another week .. :)
Im not sure whether could it be becos of the sensitivity of the SB6100 modem.. to the high fluctuation of signal strength .. prob they are unable to take it ?

Was getting the same crap the past few days......sometimes it would just dc..and stay that way..then have to reset the router....kind of **** when ur playing games online....not sure if its the bandwidth bottlenecking in the area or soemthing...then just crashing..who knows..
