Hi,

My mio contract has another 12 months to go, but I am allowed to do a recontract right now. Called up Singtel and was told that I wont be given a new mio moden unless I have 3 months left in the contract.

So if my current modem dies, I will have to buy a new one from Singtel at a subsidised rate.

Question: will I be able to use my old singnet modems temporarily if my mio modem goes down? I have ADSL modems from Thomson and Prolink.

If yes, can anyone advise where I can get the dial up software? The old sw only runs on Win XP. I am using Vista now.

Thanks very much for your advice in advance!

It dosn't make sense to tie yourself down way ahead. But then, anything goes.

Depending on what old modem you have, it might not achieve your subscribed speed at all. Oh, and there is no software required. Windows has a built in PPPoE dialer

Hi liangtam,

thanks very much for the advice:)

Yes, I used to be on 12-month contracts with Singnet, but with mio, they package with min 24 month contracts. So no choice, cos I need the digital voice feature as I make a lot of outgoing calls from my home phone.

Regards to th PPPoE dialer, thanks for the tip. I will figure out how to use that. I think I saw someone configure that before. Hopefully my Vista comes with that feature as well.

mio Voice??

Well, there are no replacement for voice if the 2Wire fails after warranty. Tho since you're on mio plan, you're on different warranty coverage afaik

yes, understand. mio Voice is not mission critical to me. The thing is that I do US market at night so if my mio modem fails, it will be good if I can quickly connect back to internet with the old ADSL modem. :)

Not an issue using back the old modems.

If you're concerned you can always purchase new mio modems from other people who have no need for it for about $70.

Thanks tidus. Singtel told me they will allow me to buy at a special price of $79...maybe because I made some noise.

Also, I followed liangtam's method of trying to connect my old ADSL modem to the internet and it was successful. Took me a while to find the PPPoE screen though as I am more used to XP. :)
