Recently my XP boot-up is getting slow. Checked for virus or malware but found nothing. I'm thinking of repairing XP instead of reinstalling as I don't wish to reinstall all the other software again.
I would like to know if I repair XP, do I need to reinstall all existing programs? Will it clear out the registry of old uninstalled programs?
Thanks.

Repair no need to reinstall existing programs.
For registry better get something like Ace utilities; Registry Mechanics or others to help maintain registry in order. Maybe you have too many startup programmes? Maybe others may have other suggestion?

Repairing won't help you in making the system faster.
From past experiences, they resulted in even slower boot and access...

What's on your startup menu ? Disable those programs that you don't frequently use at start up
Run - msconfig - Startup and uncheck those programs that you don't need at startup. That should speed up the startup time a little.
You could also try Run - "sfc /scannow" to check that your system files are all ok. Note that you will very likely need the XP installation disc for this.

I've tried disabling programs on startup previously and it helped a little. Bootvis also help slightly to improve the bootup.
I may try your other suggestion.
Thanks.
