wtf ? i think they should just let you input your XP/Vista CD key and let you validate both from within W7. having to install and validate one before the other is plain retarded.

Yah man... But as of yet I don't think it's 100% confirmed. Hopefully people will make noise about the way the upgrade works.

If it doesn't change though; I'm seriously considering cancelling my pre order upgrade and just get OEM when it hits SG.

lolwhy ? i think the extra time is worth the money saved. might try doing a fresh install and making an image of the HDD using norton ghost. hopefully can restore in the event of a reformat without having to activate again..

Ah you have a point there. Just that disk imaging you also in the end need to spend extra on a backup drive and disk imaging software if you don't have them already..

a fresh install of w7 is less than 9.5GB right ?? should be able to fit on a dual layer dvd i think ? i, for one, don't believe in using HDDs for stuff like this, its bound to fail sooner or later...

Hmm not sure about that since I havent tried W7 RC yet. Wait until W7 RTM build leaks - if any - then I try :D

But yeah guess just stick to the method one feels most comfortable with. :)

just use norton ghost and clone the entire windows partition, the instructions are pretty straightforward...

Acronis True Image 2009 also has Disk Cloning so you can use that too.

You can download Seagate Disc Wizard from Seagate site if you have Seagate HDD
in your system.
In the wizard, got clonning & image back up too, and also to create a bootable Cd
for the restoration from dos.
But if you got partition on C drive, better use Ghost.. as Seagate cannot back by
partition, only the whole HDD..
