i've juz bought a linksys WRT54G2 wireless-g-broadband router for my starhub motorola sb4100 cable modem.

when i followed the installation manual of my linksys router,i am supposed to connect a ethernet cable from the modem to the internet port at the back of the router and another ethernet cable from my pc to the port1 of the router.

problem is i cant even seem to access the internet when i tried connecting my sb4100 cable modem to my pc via ethernet cable, much less using to connect to the router to set up wireless connection.

ive been connecting my cable modem to my desktop via usb for many years and it seems like my computer already "got used to" connecting to my cable modem via usb connection. Is there anyway i can make my computer to recognise the cable modem via ethernet cable? im on window xp pro btw.

ive tried calling starhub and linksys for help many times. non of the instructions they gave managed to solve my problems yet..
can anyone help help out pls.
