Hi people,
Currently doing my thesis and stuck with the ideology of designing a wireless network for roadshow.
I would like wireless connectivity for the entire area of the roadshow. My items which I researched are network adapters, routers, servers for storage of info. I do not think firewall is necessary..
My question is,
1)are there any servers that support wireless connectivity without the need for router,
2)Is my equipment sufficient ? (intention using PDAs, Wireless terminals etc)
3) If I want to provide internet connectivity, what are the services I can use?
Been wrecking my brains for the past few weeks but cannot find anything relevant. Much of the research are migrating from wired to wireless.
Thanks in advance for reading this lengthy question.

Is this going to be some business implementation. Who are the users of the network, and what sort of application is going to be run?
If your answer is yes to the first question, you should consider directing it to a outsource provider actually.

Hi liang,
Thank you for your fast response. This is a thesis research on the appropriate peripherals to consider. Pardon my knowledge in networking my I have strong interest in it. I am intending to use wireless N routers to provide wifi connectivity for the employee of the company. Going into research on the wireless standards, wireless security compliance and the various commercial products available for suggestion of implementation.
That's why I'm thinking if it is feasible to consider so many products or to go ahead with a single wireless router (e.g. Aztech 3G router, Mifi).I do not have any idea of writing a thesis.. But will research on it..

If u're designing a wireless network infrastructure within a roadshow, I don't see why you would need a 3G router. Wireless network basically would depend on your application usage and area of coverage.
With regards to your question, read up on routers, switches, access points, repeaters, directional antenna, omni direction antenna, firewall (if you're connecting to outside world which is your #3), security( required if u going for #3), access authentication.
Have fun getting ur brains fried :P

hi huffie,
Thanks for your assistance. My intention of getting a 3G router is to provide internet connectivity within the area. That is alot of stuff to read up. Haha but no choice. Juz need some guidance from you guys on what kind of equipment I might be needing.. Thanks man!

just a friendly word of advise. If you can don't provide internet connectivity within a roadshow it will be good. It's like giving a car to a thief to go around robbing. (i.e. ppl can make use of ur "free" internet connectivity to do funny things)
