go for M1 fixed broadband 10mbps, 40.60 only. Responce from users are very positive, sometimes they give double the bandwidth

in the first place, if u do not want to face the music, do not download.
even if they do 'protect', how long can it be before the court orders for the information?

ya. sianz, but i dont see any of the local isp did protect.
if you're so paranoid, subscribe to a vpn/proxy service. but that's provided you trust the provider in the first place.

My advice: trust nobody. We all know our ISP operate web monitoring & filtering appliance to block out banned sites (e.g. YouPorn) as spelled out by MDA. This means that they have the ability & capability to log all traffic transactions in & out of their networks. They will not hesitate to release your name in court if they are pressurized by the authority like anti-piracy organization. And I believe one of them is doing some forms of deep packet inspection on the traffic. I've logged a complaint but they have yet to revert to me.
I am not a security expert but have been in IT for 15+ years, I believe everyone can take simple step to protect themselves. Hide your identity & encrypt your data to/from the Internet by using a trusted VPN service provider. Forget about free web anonymizers or Tor (anonymity network), they are slow & highly unreliable - they can be setup up by literally anyone (hackers, criminals, etc.).

This particular ISP must be doing more than just web filtering to block out banned site because some sites with forms & Flash were misbehaving or not working at all, but when I brought the same machine to my office MetroE network or connect via BBOM it was working fine.
As far as I know, ISP don't employ web filtering proxy for corporate customers, so it's totally direct transparent web surfing. I got a few friends from other ISP to try out the sites, they said no problem at all. I have worked with web filtering devices (e.g. Websense, iPrism, etc.) before, blocking of sites is a simple affair, it should not disturb the web content if the sites were not blacklisted. So it's obviously this ISP is doing worrying things behind our back.
I have logged a complaint and they haven't revert to me yet. I saw this ISP also involved in another thread where users complaining of slow BBOM access, sigh.

Not true all the time. It depends on where the content is located, sometimes it can be same or even faster. I've tested it out on both RS & MU file-hosting sites, it just 10~15% cut on your download speed, depending on locations. This 10~15% is sometimes offset by additional bandwidth the ISP throw at you (e.g. you subscribed to 8Mbps but actual is 10Mbps). But I believe the price to pay (about 23¢ per day) for the extra protection is worth it.
1 more thing: VPN providers do not usually sell you by bandwidth. :)

Do a search on Deep Packet Inspection (DPI) in Google, you'll know what I'm talking about. It's a worrying trend because ISPs now have the tools to log, analyze, and respond to every bit of data you send and receive. And it's very difficult for a layman to know that DPI has been deployed at their ISPs to collect its clients' online behavior in order to target specific ads to users. The profit potential for ISPs in this entirely new revenue stream is just too huge for them to ignore.
