Hi guys,

I'm looking for a very long range N Router. Was waiting for Belkin's N+ router to be sold here as it has about 100m range or something, but still no stocks apparently. Router signal needs to go through several walls as my modem is downstairs with my room 3 levels up.

dont think there is a perfect solution. Typically vendor will put maximum based on line of sight and clear of obstacle. With obstacle, it reduced it efficiency and distance. Moreover, a lot of antenna are build for wide distance but not up and down unless one adjust the antenna in such that it covers top and bottom.

Thus .. a lot of time, there is people putting an Access point at every level to cover the entire area.

hope this helps. Unless the coverage of the antenna is extremely wider and large radius top and bottom.

u may be better off with a home plug.

else u may either have to spend a bomb or do alot of diy tweaking.

btw .. even you manage to get the signal, it will be weak signal, it may not give good performance for throughput. but if you just use for internet. it may still be more than sufficient.

Note that you can tweak the antenna to have top and bottom coverage or side-way but not both.

Yeah, I am well aware of the problems. I just want the signal to be stable (constant 3) and not inconsistent from 4 to 1 and then back to 4. Hence the signal needs to be strong, which is where the N standards would be appropriate. I will only be using it for internet/school work on a laptop in my room. The PC at the modem is meant for gaming, on a direct connection at the moment.

I just want suggestions of N routers that can do this.

As for home plug. Unfortunately, my home has two separate power boards (it is quite big, don't ask me why there are two) so it won't be a good solution. It would have suited my purposes if it did work.

The signal strength display is NOT accurate without data transfers in process.

My suggestion is always to buy more APs, one for each level.

no perfect antenna for a perfect solution for multi-level. That is dream that many wanted but as far as I understand, current technology still unable to do it perfectly. Maybe due to law of physics.

another will be having another modem in your house if powerline or UTP cannot be possibility laid.

Another suggestion is using one Router for level 1, another 2 x Access point configured with an uni-directional with each facing each other in bridge mode. Then another access point configured as normal AP in level 3. This should be more stable. This suggestion is more expensive but offer better stability in signal, as uni-directional antenna are more powerful going over multi-layer floors but I still dont suggest getting more powerful antenna and upping the signal strength for no apparent reason due to health constraints. 2.4G still under microwave signal.

But a good suggestions till get a router of your choice, test it out first, if the signal is really bad .. the 2nd suggestion could be a good choice for you.

Hmm, yeah you're right. Thanks a lot for the reply.
