Singnet proxy slows down Speedtest?

If I configure my internet connection on Firefox so that manual proxy is activated (proxy2.singnet.com.sg), my results from speedtest.com.sg are rather poor. Using the proxy however does not seem to adversely affect the loading time for most web pages. Can someone explain this? Thanks.
