I'm using DIR-300 on MOL Express plan. System specs as ------->
I've managed to assigned a fixed DHCP, and done port forwarding properly. uTorrent port checker says port is open, and I get the green tick below. Windows Firewall also allowed access to uTorrent.
I've got a number of torrents, with like over a thousand seeders and leechers each, but I'm getting average speeds of like 4-5 kB/sec, same as several other torrents I'm downloading. Set the upload limit to 20kB/sec so I know its not the uploads interfering with the download speeds. I tried test torrents like Slackware and got 160 kB/sec average, but other torrwnts that I used to get good speeds with are not only single digit.
Is there a problem with my confugurations and how can I improve my speed?

1stly, welcome to the Crub.
2ndly, ur hardware specs arent shown outside hardware clinic.
Lastly, u can try popular linux torrents for a test result. if u have a private tracker would be best.
if ur speedtest.sg results are good enough, then refer to 1st.

try torrents here:
http://releases.ubuntu.com/jaunty/
If dem fast, means your pirated seeders dem kiam siap don't wanna share with you.

have you've tried the latest utorrent? check the forum threads.. with it's "UDP" enabled, you should see some speed improvements.
If not, then if you are really stuck with SH BB and you really need torrents, consider upgrading to their premium BB package. Works wonders for torrents.

OK speedtest.net results are as follows:
http://www.speedtest.net/result/531442559.png (http://www.speedtest.net)
My hardware is:
Intel Core i7-920
EVGA x58 SLI-LE
6GB OCZ DDR3
Palit GTX285
D-Link DIR-300 router
Starhub MOL Express
Running Vista Home Premium 64-bit
I'm running the latest uTorrent 1.8.3
Sometimes I get 100+ kB/sec on a torrent for a couple of minutes then back to low 10s or below 10kB/s... don't get it, used to get decent speeds, so unlikely a router problem.
Torrents are mixture from public sites like isohunt and mininova, and also from private tracker sites. I tried slackware test torrent and got 160kB/sec average, but rest of the time and torrents are crap. So is it a torrent problem or settings problem?

don bother lol.
once ur throttled, ur throttled.
its only a matter of when.
who doesnt want the convenience of no dialing up, always on connection and save on router costs :)
anyway ur speed is normal, since ur plan is 8mb down 0.768 up. ping is ok though shd be better iirc during my cable days.
u can try starhub ultilities to see if ur getting local speed boost of up to 100mbps. if ur modem is docsis 3.0 maybe u get 20+mb/s.

the worse thing is that i used to get much better speeds on my home connection when i was on my work laptop, compared to my new PC.. which is why i'm suspecting that its a configuration issue and not an issue with my bandwidth :o

err, can't leh cos the desktop is in my bedroom and the modem/router is in the living room :s13:
Not sure if its a related problem, but sometimes I can't open webpages on my desktop, but it opens fine using my office notebook.. could there be some problem with my configuration that is disrupting my connection?
Currently can't open the DBS webpage, but opens fine on notebook. Other sites like HWZ open fine.. why ah?

check number 1 :)
Are your computers running downloads via torrent when you attempted to open the DBS webpage?

Yes it was, but I limited my upload to 20kB/sec on uTorrent. After a while, the webpage opened fine again on the desktop

Why censored the torrent? Pirated or hamsup kinda torrent? Maybe those kind seeders are very kiam siap with bandwidth or connection limit. Try .torrent files from http://releases.ubuntu.com/jaunty/ to confirm non-kiam-siap speed.

even though u see alot of peers, some trackers may be private. u can see but cannot connect unless u login their tracker.
and ya legal files or private trackers are easier to compare.
