I'm using a TP-LInk wireless router (model number: TL-WR841ND) with Starhub MaxOnline. I've set up my wireless network as per the manual instructions and can get connected to the internet. However, after a while the internet connection goes off. Then I have to log into the router configuration page and release/renew the IP address to get the internet connection back again. This keeps happening and it's really getting frustrating.
I've done things like upgrade my router firmware (which was already the latest version anyway), power down router and modem and wait 1/2 hr before powering them back up (modem first then router) and nothing seems to work! It also happens when I use a wired connection by connecting directly to the router. :(

Does anyone have any advice as to what is wrong here and what else I need to do? Pls help and thanks in advance!

More details:
Router settings
WAN Connection Type: Dynamic IP
MTU Size: 1500
Wireless Security: WPA-PSK/WPA2-PSK

Cable Modem
Motorola SBV5121 with phone port

Couldn't it be a problem with your SH connection?

Router status page got state any DHCP lease timing?
Your problems *may* possibly not be isolated, as its resembles similarly to users of this (http://forums.hardwarezone.com.sg/showthread.php?t=1745278&page=99) thread

1) are you on vista or xp.

2) are you on WPA or WPA2. if WPA2, can u test WPA and see if it happens again.

3) Your DHCP expiry time is how long. ur estimated reboot is it roughly abt the DHCP expiry time.

Hi all,

Thanks for your replies! Really appreciate it..

leaving_footsteps: I'm not sure if it's the SH connection, but I doubt so because I don't get the problem if I plug in my computer directly to the modem.

liangtam: DHCP lease timing is now 2880 minutes. Default was 120 minutes and I changed it.

aaur4man:
1) I'm on mac actually. But I do have another laptop which is on XP and it had the same problem.

2) The router does not have the option to choose between WPA or WPA2. But I've just changed my mac network settings to WPA to see if it makes a difference. *fingers crossed*

3) DHCP lease time is 2880 minutes now. But isn't the IP renewal automatic? i.e. when 2880 minutes is up I don't have to do anything and the router will renew the lease?

certain routers have bugs with DHCP automatic renewal. not just the cheap ones.

vista also has this problem.

some speculations point it to WPA2.

thats y i suggested trying WPA or maybe WEP for a while.

DHCP lease time will directly help. my 3com I could set permanent but not all can.
This sucks.

If you want to be sure if its WPA2, set DHCP to short time and see if same thing still happens. at least u will know the source of the fault.

anyway hows ur wireless performance and bittorrent? feel like trying your 3T3R version.

EDIT: When u say it goes off, does it mean ur client cant detect the SSID, or it connects but states limited connectivity?
