THEY only came down to buy tickets.
But three lucky fans from China stumbled across the China national team training yesterday evening at the National Stadium.
Li Yue Jun, 22, and two of his classmates (Yuan Jia Wei, 21, and Su Shu Chen, 24) left without purchasing the tickets for the Singapore v China match today, because tickets were only on sale at Jalan Besar Stadium yesterday.
But watching their national team train more than made up for it.
Li, who came to Singapore to study two years ago, told The New Paper: 'We came down to buy tickets, so it's a big surprise to see them training.
'We were looking for people to ask about the tickets when the China national team walked in. We're so lucky, it's amazing.'
'It's unbelievable that we can see them so close. We've only watched them play and train on television before this.
'We're Chinese, so even if the team doesn't play well, we will always support the players.'
The trio were the only fans watching at the open training session yesterday, and stood engrossed on the sidelines watching the players train.
And Li knew exactly which members of the squad he really wanted to see.
He said: 'Striker Han Peng is a good player, and the coach Gao Hongbo was a very famous player in China. We want to take their autographs, but no photos.
'We forgot to bring our camera because we just thought we were coming down for tickets. It's a big mistake!'
