I am seeking technical help on the feasiblity of accessing the harddisk sharing the same IP address.

To clarify, let me quote an example.

Assuming I m working in location A on a desktop, I am looking to access the data in desktop in location A from my laptop at home.

How do I achieve it?

I think you need have a wireless router with VPN function. So you can remote access to your laptop.

You can check with Prolink or D-link. They must have some solution for you.
