Hi, I need a router for my house use and with the following requirements:
1) Budget - <$200
2) Able to stream HD video wirelessly from my desktop (connected with wire on freenas) to my macbook pro laptop without jerking (currently on wrt54g router, very slow)
Optional requirements would be nice:
1) Build in adsl2+ modem
2) USB host, so I can share the printer. :P
Any recommendation? Mainly wish to have a smooth video stream wireless from desktop to laptop.
Thank you.

so you mean any wireless n router will able to serve the video streaming?
My concern is getting one and it boils down the same old problem as my wrt54g.
By the way, those which can have simultaneously dual band the same as 2t2r? I am quite lost with all these terms.
Thanks.

Yes, it is set on g only but it still lags in video streaming.
Sorry, what do you mean without network stream?
The file transfer time for 230MB file from desktop to my laptop is around 20mins+

can I have it to run wireless n and g at the same time?

both the router and and laptop is within the same room. No more than 5m away. No obstruction in between. :)

Updates: My current wireless transfer is about 3Mbps max from wired desktop to wireless laptop.
I tried transfering a 210MB file takes about 14mins.

Play the video on ur PC directly. To make sure it is able to do so smoothly
230/20 = 11.5MB/m
1.5Mb/s
1.5Mbps as bitrate is too low. Hook your com by wired means and do transfer again

But will the aztech be fast enough to stream the video without lagging?
How much faster can I expect from my current speed?
Thanks for the reply.

Just tried. Wired video streaming no problem.
File transfer around 4mins for the 230MB file.

ya, i know hence looking for a upgrade. :P
How about belkin 8636 as compared to the aztech? Are they the same standard?

generally i think belkin a lil overpriced for their specs.
reviews dont show them worth the quids.
u want lifetime warranty, get d link DSL 2740B.

Just tried. Wired video streaming no problem.
File transfer around 4mins for the 230MB file.
230/4 =57.5MB/m
57.5MBx8=460Mbpm
= 7.6Mbps.
Therefore, the rate is not okay either!

One last question, can the aztech upgradable when the 802.11n is finalised?

Wired cannot means thats it liao. Change wont help.
There are 3 things we cannot identify at the moment.
As freeNAS is a software code for a generic PC to turn into a NAS device. The performance will directly varies according to the type of hdd and ram used, together in some part the cpu. You may wan to list down info of hardware specs or get another pc to do transfer again
Alternatively, the NIC or switch portion of the router has a problem. The latter is very much 99% unlikely, while for the former the rate sync could be 10Mbps so the slowdown
You have not answered us if your mbp can actually view the video smoothly when the file is in it

Yes, the file can be viewed smoothly on my laptop, and via the wired network.

I end up with Aztech DSL1015EN.
Quite easy to setup with singnet, just use the quickstart and everything is good to go.
Only problem facing now is the usb print server with my macbook, not sure why I need to reset the print server after each print. :(
Other than that, the speed is indeed improved. File transfer from wired to wired for 230mb went down to less than a min compared to 4 mins+ then.
Worth it? I think so, for that price. :P
Hope they will have some updates on the firmware for the print server if any.
