Hi Bros,
I was trying to roll back a DD-WRT install to the original Linksys firmeware on my WRT54G. Followed instructions for the roll back here (http://www.bitsum.com/openwiking/owbase/ow.asp?p=WRT54G5_CFe#h13). However, the device is dead now. Power light flashing, and all LAN ports and WAN port LEDs are solid ON all the time.
This was the last message I saw on the device before I rebooted it, since it was stuck on that screen for more than 15 minutes. Anyone got suggestions on how to revive? I already tried all instructions found here (http://www.linksysinfo.org/forums/showthread.php?t=47259)

Bigger screen shot attached.
My problem is that the LAN ports do not seem to function, and I am not able to ping 192.168.1.1 as the documentation suggests.

Ok guys, looks like JTAG is the only option, as discussed here (http://www.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=46739). Apparently using a compressed CFE bricks the router during the reversion process.
Someone have a JTAG cable I can borrow? I also need to solder on the 12 pin header onto the board, can someone point me to where I can buy it?

Why don't you just try to get another used one? It's not really worth it going thru so much trouble. I do not know if v5 supports tomato firmware but get one which does...

I know its time to buy new, but I need a functional router until the next IT show in September. And now that the issue is known, I still want to try to recover the device.
Where can I get a jtag cable in Singapore? Most of the ebay listings are from the US, with a 2 week shipping lead time.

g router only 48 for d-link. other brands even cheaper. not worth to pay or go thru the hassle of jtag.

This device will replace my crappy DVG-5202P as an access point, so I still have use for it. Now can someone tell me if it is possible to buy JTAG cables in Singapore. If so, where?

Unlikely, most of the shops don't even know what JTAG cable is. :s27:

I got mine from SLS but as stated in PM that one uses serial port and only work for NAS devices.
BTW, this may sound noob but did you set static address on your PC since you mentioned not able to access 192.168.1.1 (router)?

Yep. Tried it many times, no luck. I'll try SLT tomorrow or else order from EBay.

won't it be cheaper (and lose less brain cells) by buying a 2nd hand off resale market?

jtag ish ownself connect one reh. how to even buy one in SLx
Actually, jtag no point. Cos if the base code erased, no emergency firmware page chances of serial over jtag oso low

not sure how much is a wrtg54 but i juz got a buffalo wnr834 for 97 from fuwell. took me <1 hour to unpack, flash with dd-wrt and configure to work as repeater bridge. now testing stability before i do a permanent setup in my room. so far so good :-)
dang, i should have bought this unit instead of d-link dir-655. half the price and with dd-wrt, so many rich features!

Update guys!
My Linksys WRT54G has been brough back to life :s7:
All it took was one trip to SLT to buy components and make a JTAG cable.
Travel cost to SLT 4$
Cost of cable 10$
Cost of Snack 3$
Total Time spent: 4 hours
Value of experience: Priceless :s12:
Now that I have done it, JTAG is not that difficult. There are good guides on the internet, all you need is a little soldering skills and a lot of patience.

Glad that you got it back to life.
I went through exactly the same thing as you few years ago when I bricked my WRT54G v5. It's just a few months old. I called up Linksys hotline and spent nearly an hour with the consultant before getting the RMA cert. Before I went down to the service centre the next day, I tried the process again and it came back to life. :s13: I didn't use any JTAG cable. =:p
