im currently using an HP colour laserjet 2600n and it's not too good. When i bought it, the HP brochure said that it was good for making coloured brochures, printed back to back. I found this was not so as when you print back to back, the toner from the first side dirties the printer and you end up getting the second side either dirty or with a layer of grey over it. Also, it said that the maximum grammage compatible with the HP is 220gsm, but again, this was not true as my 220gsm paper got jammed in the machine.
Anyway, im thinking of getting a Fuji Xerox A4 colour, i think it's more ex but is it worth it? The models available now are Docuprint C1110, C2100, C2200 and C3300 DX. I think the Phaser is too expensive so I'd avoid that. The Fuji website doesn't say what thickness of paper is compatible, except for the C1110 which is 216gsm, so if you have any info, please let me know ok?! thanks!!
im hoping COMEX has some deals...

hp color lasers has a bad reputation (cp1215 can attest to that, off colour and sick looking color prints)
i have been researching colour laser printers since my first in sitex 2006, the konica minolta 2400w at $308 only!
colours printers got:
inkjet or deskjet
laser
led (oki brand)
stick of ink
by the way i saw in digitalife konica minolta is giving free colour laser printer if you buy the replacement inks;
and ricoh has one below $400
further back in time recently lexmark has $300+?
fuji xerox is expensive, ink runs out fast i guess (but you got to use it then know), but colours accurate
don't consider canon+samsung. hp of course not+
epson got one model...
brother i don't think so
oki hahaha so red (led technology but can print banner)
what else brands
i research until headache till my mop bought cp1215 hp e yucks hopeless
and, look for 3y warranty (sure on site, laser so big)

What about the HP 3600?
I have technical graphic background and tested the various printers before a few years ago. The older range of HPs were better than the lexmarks and xerox at competing models. It could print out solid blocks of color, smooth graduations without banding and fine wire-mesh effects without breaking. I'm surprised HPs have become so poor.
To note paper jams for thick paper and smudging on pre-printed sides. This has to do with the paper path where the cards/paper have to go through the least curves. Is the height/alignment of the 2600 & 3600 drums different? It will make a very big difference. Also, the toner fusing performance could be better for the higher models which may help with the smudging during duplexing.
Poor color matching has to do with software also. I believe the higher models like 3600 has pantone swatch profiles and postscript language for color matching.
