I'm using 2wire 2701HGV-E supplied by singnet. The wireless connection to my room is only 1 bar due toe bad design of my house. Is there any way to enhance the quality of the signal by getting a range extender? if so, what products out there that i should get?

Sorry to ask, what's AP?
you can
1. Get a router with stronger antenna
2. Can use ethernet connection from router to access point
3. Switch to powerline
those 3 are the more simple methods.

Sorry to ride on the post. Where to connect the wireless range extender? Is it to the router or can connect to my laptoP?

not so simple.
there are 2 types being wired and non wired. Wired means need to trunk cable (best signal) while wireless (so so signal) although convenient needs some networking knowledge.
if living in multi storey house, placing the extender at staircase usually works. For single level, place the router at centre of house and then point antenna at any dead/weak spots.

I'm in a similar situation as you brother, but I'm using Starhub with a Linksys WRT54G router with extended antennas. My room happens to be the furthest away from the router and in a direct line, my wireless would be blocked by one door and 2 walls...very xiong. Otherwise, the signal would bounce off at least 5 to 6 walls along 10 to 15m in a U shape.
Homeplug is very expensive. One set is a pair and it costs about $150 to $200. Linksys wireless range extender costs about $129 but it depends if you're lucky. Alot of mixed reviews due to a particular layout of a house or poor positioning of the extender.
If you want to play safe, I recommend you go straight for the Linksys 160N or 310N router. Don't worry if your PCs or laptops are still at G because it's backwards compatible and all N routers have a mixed-mode function to support this. I'm going for the 310N myself =) (160N @ $139 and 310N @ $189). Although you won't get N speeds because its mixed with G, the signal quality and strength will still be there.
Hope this helps!! =)

Best way is to get the home wired up. Then fix up additional access point if needed.
